Full Job Description
Join the world-class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting an advanced assembly operation that build, tests, and repairs AI/ML compute infrastructure at scale. As a Health and Safety Manager you will own the Health and Safety function for a 24/7 assembly facility performing server chassis assembly, automated optical inspection, liquid cooling system integration, high-power functional testing, and rack-level system builds.

This role carries significant ambiguity. You will build safety programs from the ground up for a novel assembly environment that combines automated assembly lines, high-voltage energized testing (500kW+ per rack), liquid cooling processes under pressure, and industrial robotics. You will serve as the safety leader on site, owning regulatory compliance, incident investigation, automation safety acceptance, and contractor safety coordination. You will partner with operations leadership, automation engineering, corporate safety functions, and third-party service providers to create and sustain a safety program that keeps pace with rapid operational scaling.

Key job responsibilities
• Own all day-to-day safety operations at an advanced assembly site, including program execution, compliance assurance, and risk governance.
• Build and implement safety programs for a novel manufacturing environment: lockout/tagout for complex automated systems, electrical safety, machine guarding, chemical handling for liquid cooling systems, confined space, fall protection, powered industrial truck operations, and ergonomics.
• Lead incident investigations using structured root cause analysis methodologies. Ensure investigation quality, timely closure, and verification of corrective action effectiveness.
• Provide safety input for automation acceptance, new equipment commissioning, and process changes. Evaluate risk for automated lines, robotic systems, and test station configurations before operational go-live.
• Serve as the primary interface with regulatory agencies (OSHA, fire marshal, local Authority Having Jurisdiction). Manage inspections, inquiries, and voluntary compliance initiatives.
• Manage contractor safety coordination in a multi-employer worksite. Ensure host employer obligations are met across assembly operators, construction trades, and maintenance vendors.
• Conduct health and safety audits of manufacturing operations, active construction zones, and high-energy testing areas to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans, business continuity procedures, and life safety protocols for a high-energy manufacturing environment.
• Perform data trend analysis on leading and lagging safety indicators. Present findings to site leadership to inform operational decisions and safety investment priorities.
• Supervise and develop Safety Specialists across multiple shifts, providing coaching, performance management, and career development in a 24/7 operation.
• Own safety program transitions as the operation scales from contractor-operated to company-operated workforce models.
• Drive safety culture through visible leadership, training program design, safety committee facilitation, and proactive hazard identification programs.
