Plant Health Physicist - Plant Hatch

It's an exciting time to be part of our growing organization. Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's eight nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. Summary of Position Duties

Monitoring all aspects of the Radiation Protection program and performance indicators to include:
  • Implementing special projects to improve Radiation Protection Programs
  • Implementing RP Technical Programs and associated responsibilities
  • Site dosimetry support
  • Tracking/Trending all radiological data related to plant performance indicators
  • Benchmarking industry on Radiation Protection issues and site performance
  • Filling the Emergency Response Organization position
  • Additional support for RP department responsibilities as needed
  • Administrative and document control duties as required


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education
  • Associates Degree in Radiation Protection Technology, a Physical Science or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Protection, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or other physical science preferred.
  • Masters Degree Health Physics or Engineering preferred.
  • NRRPT or CHP preferred

Background/Experience Requirements
  • Experience in Health Physics or Radiation Protection programs is required
  • BWR experience is preferred
  • Experience with nuclear power plant outages, access control is preferred
  • Applicant must be able to obtain an unescorted badge at all SNC sites

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases are highly desirable
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required. Strong presentation skills are also required
  • Strong ability to make decisions and drive behaviors is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required
  • Strong working knowledge of BWR nuclear power plant systems, processes, and procedures and clear understanding of and ability to apply regulatory requirements to plant settings are preferred
  • Ability to balance multiple objectives and set priorities is required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve and seek alternative solutions to complex issues is needed
