Full Job Description
Weyerhaeuser Company is currently accepting applications for a Health and Safety Manager for our OSB facility located in Edson, AB. We are seeking an individual whose safety values are rooted in caring, has a positive attitude, excellent work ethic and a desire to work closely with the site as a member of the Leadership Team.

The qualified candidate will utilize their comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health to ensure the safety of the Edson team and to develop, maintain and improve site safety systems built to achieve a culture of safe choices which results in zero injuries. The successful candidate will also liaison with corporate safety resources to achieve compliance with applicable safety standards. The Safety Manager, who reports directly to the Mill Manager, will actively participate on the site Leadership team and will lead the development and implementation of safety programs.

Critical to this role is a demonstrated ability to influence, lead and role model safety. These skills will be critical in helping members of the leadership team understand how to improve a safety driven culture. This individual will be involved in a broad range of safety management and leadership initiatives including annual site safety planning, accountability and performance management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise on safety and health related matters and assist the leadership team in successfully implementing and managing safety processes.
  • Work directly with the leadership team to ensure safety programs are implemented in their entirety, including written programs, required training, and periodic audits to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, Provincial and local standards pertaining to workplace safety and health.
  • Coach and support the site's Safety Lead Team and other Safety Committees/Teams to ensure effectiveness.
  • Identify and address the site's highest risks through the site's risk-based safety plan.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations to determine root cause and prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate an effective onboarding process for new employees to ensure their safety.
  • Provide safety-related project management support (e.g., Management of Change).
  • Monitor and support required annual safety training.
  • Audit safety systems and prioritize necessary follow-up by establishing action plans with site leaders.
  • Dynamic and motivated safety professional who will role model safe behaviors and demonstrate caring leadership.
  • Effective administrative skills (e.g., planning, prioritizing and organizing with strong attention to detail).
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with various business groups to accomplish business objectives.


Qualifications
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation (CRSP) or equivalent (or significant progress and active pursuit in progress) OR
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) with at least two (2) years' safety experience OR
  • High School Diploma/GED with at least five (5) years' health & safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Good working knowledge of provincial and federal regulations / requirements.
  • Experience in leading and/or participating in safety Incident Investigations.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training.
  • Project management skills to include strong leadership with the ability to develop and implement safety processes.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with hourly and salaried associates.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of health & safety software programs .
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours should a situation warrant.
  • Robust leadership and communication skills with ability to influence a large organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to make critical decisions when necessary.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and achieve goals in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation (CRSP) or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Safety & industrial hygiene certification and/or training.
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing.
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $89,859 - $130,386 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
