Full Job Description
You will work with BURNCO's operations team to align H&S standards, maintain site presence, and support H&S activities. Responsibilities include conducting inspections and audits, preparing reports with corrective actions, and leading or assisting in accident and incident investigations. You will develop and deliver training, produce reports and presentation materials, and support annual COR audits to ensure compliance. Additionally, as a dynamic leader, you will foster a culture of safety excellence across all levels of operations and represent BURNCO on industry associations and committees.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the development and implementation of H&S guidelines, policies, and procedures that align with company objectives
  • Engage with business line management to tackle challenges and fulfill customer mandates, ensuring robust support for H&S initiatives
  • Stay ahead of pending legislation and regulatory mandates, crafting compliance strategies and effectively communicating these throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with line and project management on regulatory compliance, incident reporting, and case management
  • Spearhead safety training programs, ensuring relevance, compliance, and effectiveness
  • Drive safety culture through behavioral change, influence, and engagement, ensuring safety becomes a core aspect of our operational DNA
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulations, leveraging audits, training, and expert consultations
  • Maintain a visible and proactive role in the project safety process, acting as a key point for safety process communication and enhancements
  • Foster relationships with external professionals and organizations to stay abreast of best practices and regulatory compliance


What we would like from you

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in H&S roles, including industry experience in construction or oil and gas
  • A Bachelor's degree in health and safety or the equivalent combination of experience
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation and ACSA Auditor certification, or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software applications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with a focus on ethical, collaborative relationship-building
  • Commitment to spending 50% of time in the field to engage frontline personnel and promote a culture of safety
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time


Location and other key details:

  • This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Burnaby, BC Office
  • Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours as business needs arise
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies during non-business hours
  • Daily travel to the field locations and occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)


Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000
