Job DescriptionMAPEI is seeking an experienced
Head of Transportation to lead transportation strategy and operations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. This position oversees a complex, high-volume network while driving freight-cost optimization, carrier performance, regulatory compliance, and reliable service to MAPEI facilities and customers.
Key Responsibilities - Lead transportation strategy and operations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
- Manage freight spending, budgets, financial reporting, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Source, negotiate with, and manage carriers and logistics providers to ensure competitive pricing, capacity, and reliable service.
- Establish carrier performance scorecards and monitor service, cost, safety, and compliance.
- Optimize routing, shipment consolidation, equipment utilization, and transportation modes to improve cost and service.
- Oversee Transportation Management System procedures and compliance across MAPEI locations.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, hazardous materials, customs, import, and other applicable transportation regulations.
- Manage U.S. customs brokerage services, import procedures, and HTS tariff classifications.
- Oversee fleet driver and vehicle compliance, fuel and road-tax reporting, and driver safety training.
- Lead and develop the transportation team, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Partner with manufacturing, warehousing, procurement, customer service, and finance to resolve transportation and service issues.
- Support inventory and distribution strategies by optimizing product movement and availability across MAPEI's warehouse network.
- Perform assigned tasks in conformance with procedures and instructions established in the Business Management System (BMS) and in compliance with applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulatory requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications - High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of four years of transportation management, logistics, and supervisory experience; an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience leading transportation operations within a multi-site manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of carrier management, freight procurement, contract negotiation, and domestic, cross-border, and international transportation.
- Working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, hazardous materials, customs, import compliance, and HTS tariff classifications.
- Strong leadership, analytical, financial, negotiation, communication, project-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and transportation management or related enterprise systems.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and the ability to travel as business needs require.
- Hazardous materials qualifications for ground, maritime, and air transportation required.
- MBA, APICS/ASCM or similar professional certification, and bilingual English/Spanish and/or Italian skills are a plus.
