Full Job Description
Head of Public Relations

About the role

We're looking for a Head of Public Relations to own how Range is understood in the market. Reporting directly to our CEO, you'll build our earned media program from the ground up - the narrative, the reporter relationships, and the cadence of coverage that makes Range a named leader in AI-powered wealth management. You'll also build the capability we need on the days the news is not ours to choose: a crisis and issues function that lets a fast-moving, SEC-registered firm respond quickly, accurately, and within the rules. This is a builder's seat with founder-level visibility and real consequence.

We're excited to hire this role at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA or our NYC location. All of our positions follow an in-office schedule Monday through Friday, allowing you to collaborate directly with your team. If you're not currently based here, but love what you see, let's discuss relocation options as part of your journey to joining us.

What you'll do with us
  • Own Range's external narrative end to end - build the message house, the fact base, and the boilerplate that everyone from Sales to Recruiting works from.
  • Build and personally carry relationships with the reporters covering fintech, wealth management, AI, and personal finance, and turn them into sustained coverage that does not depend on funding announcements.
  • Run announcement strategy for funding, product, partnership, and people news - including embargoes, exclusives, and the lead time that lets Compliance review real work rather than a fire drill.
  • Stand up our crisis and issues management capability: severity tiers, named owners, pre-cleared holding statements, escalation paths, and tabletop exercises with leadership.
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal to build a communications review standard that is fast enough to use and rigorous enough for an SEC-registered investment adviser - including how we substantiate the claims we make about AI and performance.
  • Prepare and protect our spokespeople: media training, briefing documents, and a bench deep enough that the founders are not the only voice.
  • Own the agency relationship, budget, and performance, and build the measurement - share of voice, message pull-through, coverage quality - that tells leadership whether any of it is working.

What will set you apart
  • 12+ years in communications or public relations, with meaningful in-house time at a high-growth company; experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated, high-scrutiny category.
  • A track record of landing sustained tier-one and trade coverage through relationships you built yourself, not only through an agency.
  • Real crisis experience - you have been the person writing the statement while the story was moving, and you can talk honestly about what you learned.
  • Working fluency in the regulatory constraints on financial communications (SEC marketing rule, claims substantiation, testimonial and performance rules) and the judgment to find the compliant version of a good story.
  • Credibility with founders and executives, including the standing to push back - and the track record that earns it.
  • A builder's instinct. You are comfortable as a team of one with agency support in year one, writing the plan and the press release yourself.
  • Genuine fluency in AI and technology. Our category is being written about constantly, and reporters will know within one call whether you understand what we actually built.

Compensation

Base salary range: $200,000 - $300,000

This is the base salary range we expect in good faith to pay for this role at the time of posting. Where an offer lands within the range depends on the scope and complexity of work the candidate can own independently and demonstrated depth at this level.

The range above reflects base salary only. Our offer packages also include equity in the form of stock options, so total compensation for this role will exceed the base salary range.

We do not ask for or consider salary history. You are welcome to ask questions about compensation at any point in the process.

Benefits
  • Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
  • Paid Time Off: time to reset and recharge + most federal holidays
  • Parental Leave: Comprehensive leave policy for growing families
  • Meals: Select meals covered throughout the week
  • Fitness: Monthly movement stipend
  • Equity & Career Growth: Early exercise eligibility and a strong focus on professional development
  • Annual Compensation Reviews: Salary and equity refreshes based on performance
  • Boomerang Program: After two years at Range, you can take time away to start your own company. We'll hold your spot for 6 months - and pause your equity vesting, which resumes if you return
