Full Job Description
Summary: The Head of People is responsible for developing and leading human resources strategy in alignment with the overall company strategic plan and in support of Grand Central Bakery's mission to serve our customers delicious, authentic food made from high quality local and sustainable ingredients. As a member of Grand Central Bakery's Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Head of People plays a pivotal role in aligning the workforce with the company's long-term objectives. This position combines leadership in human resources management with a focus on developing and implementing policies, programs, and initiatives that drive organizational performance and growth.

Salary: $150,000 full-time annual equivalent

Location: This position may be located in Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington

Remote work: This position is eligible for hybrid (remote and on-site) work.

Travel requirements: To best support the organization, the Head of People occasionally travels between Portland and Seattle.

Successful candidates are likely to possess many of the following qualifications:

  • 10 or more years' experience in human resources, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, demonstrating the ability to align HR strategy with business goals and drive organizational success.
  • 5 or more years financial experience including developing budgets, negotiating vendor contracts, analyzing labor costs, and managing benefit programs.
  • Extensive experience in managing employee relations, resolving conflicts, and promoting a positive work culture. Proven ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive experience in labor relations, including negotiating labor agreements, managing union relationships, handling grievances, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and contracts.
  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local laws impacting employment.
  • Experience designing and advancing strategies that promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally on strategic initiatives. Ability to make effective and persuasive recommendations on controversial or complex topics.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and data.
  • Experience adapting to changing organizational and operational needs; experience leading people through change.
  • A strong passion for working in mission-driven organizations, with a deep commitment to B Corporations, social responsibility, and open-book management practices. Proven ability to align HR strategies with the company's mission and values.
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
