Head of Internal Communications & Engagement (US)

Location: Durham, NC or Philadelphia, PA

The Head of Internal Communications & Engagement leads the strategy to ensure employees understand, connect to, and are inspired to deliver US business and patient priorities.

This role serves as a trusted advisor on internal comms to the US CGA leadership team and the US President, communicating strategy, change, performance and milestone moments to help shape the employee experience. Reporting to the VP, US Product, Pipeline and Patient Communications, this role partners across business units, leadership teams, Global Communications and Government Affairs to execute high-impact engagement strategies driving employee ambition and momentum to deliver US business priorities and GSK's patient-driven purpose and culture. 

Key Responsibilities:

Set and lead internal communications strategy

  • Own and evolve the US internal communications and engagement strategy aligned to business priorities and enterprise narrative
  • Ensure a clear, consistent US story across business units, functions, and channels
  • Act as an integrator across US CGA, Global/US Internal Teams, site-based teams, culture councils and HR

Partner with leadership to shape the narrative

  • Serve as a day-to-day communications partner to the US President, working closely with the VP, US Product, Pipeline and Patient Communications
  • Create opportunities to increase leadership voice and messaging during key moments—on social, at events, during milestone moments, throughout transformation – creating the connectivity between the moment and our business priorities to drive growth, accelerate R&D and simplify how we work
  • Develop modern, high-impact executive communications that build understanding, create clarity, give confidence, and increase connection

Lead through change and transformation

  • Define and deliver communications strategies for enterprise change, including transformation, restructuring, and business-critical initiatives
  • Ensure clarity, transparency, and consistency in how change is communicated across the organization – while always providing context
  • Partner with US Comms and Government Affairs to translate policy, advocacy, and external developments into clear, relevant messaging for employees
  • Ensure alignment between external positioning and internal understanding, particularly on high-impact or sensitive topics or issues as well as company narrative

Drive engagement and culture

  • Lead employee engagement strategy, including listening, insights, and action planning
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to strengthen culture through integrated communication and engagement approaches
  • Use data and feedback to continuously improve messaging, channels, and leader effectiveness

Modernize channels, content, and delivery

  • Lead evolution of internal communication channels and platforms to increase reach and engagement
  • Drive modern content strategy—including multimedia storytelling and executive visibility
  • Leverage digital and AI-enabled tools to improve impact, speed, and efficiency

Enable strong execution across the business

  • Drive alignment across US business unit communications, ensuring consistency and clarity
  • Build strong partnerships across therapeutic areas and teams to connect strategy to business impact

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • 3+ years of recent experience, change management, issues management, media relations and understanding of investor relations (including disclosure processes) and/or brand marketing (can be in combination with above, not separate)
  • 3+ years of recent experience leading people (direct line leadership)
  • 3+ years of recent experience working in a global and/or cross functional team
  • Technology-forward mindset, with experience adopting or embedding digital platforms, or AI-enabled tools to enable greater reach and impact.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • A minimum in of 3 years recent experience working in vaccines, pharma, corporate healthcare, public health and/or federal government preferred
  • Experience developing and empowering highly performing individuals, teams and a focus on building a talent pipeline
  • Deep understanding of the US external health care environment and stakeholder landscape as well as an understanding of regulatory process in connection with specialty assets and access and reimbursement in the US
  • Proven track record of excellence in communications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FDA, CDC / ACIP regulatory processes
  • Experience working with advocacy organizations
  • Excellent judgement, high personal and business integrity
  • Strong business and commercial acumen including product launches and or line extension
  • Proven strategic thinker combined with excellence in tactical implementation
  • Ability to demonstrate enterprise (big picture, global to local) leadership thinking.
  • Strong strategic, analytical and proactive problem-solving acumen with a strong external goal-oriented focus
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with strong commercial knowledge
  • Agility and strong decision-making skills using evidence and applying judgement to balance pace, rigor and risk
  • Management of individual and team performance
  • Ability to manage issues and crisis, including scenario planning and activation of communications strategies, initiatives and cascades
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and brand priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational and project management experience to ensure timely delivery and thoughtful execution
  • Experience with budget and agency management
  • Ability to collaborate across matrix team to keep stakeholders
