This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI) three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) Engineer is a key position responsible for designing and implementing the power and signal distribution wiring systems in GM vehicle programs. This is an electrical engineering role within the Product Development Team in the Electrical SMT. The PSDS DRE works closely with engineers across multiple groups to integrate components, wiring, and systems. The position also involves close collaboration with vehicle program teams, as well as other Product Development organizations such as interiors, body, purchasing, marketing, and manufacturing.
What You'll Do:
Provides program-specific sourcing requirements and PSDS technical input for supplier technical reviews.
Develops the initial harness parts list and performs complexity studies.
Maintains program continuity and consistency of effort by understanding the PSDS Statement of Requirements, program timing, issues, and plans, and by managing required changes.
Coordinates and manages supplier activities within the engineering factory.
Participates in interface tradeoff discussions and helps resolve system integration issues.
Manages cost, quality, mass, and related performance metrics for the power and signal distribution system, including program and content changes.
Supports pre-production build events, including both physical and virtual builds.
Ensures the design, development, and release of the wiring system are fully integrated into the vehicle architecture with a strong focus on quality.
Leads Product Development Team meetings to ensure timing and deliverables are achieved.
Leads or supports benchmarking activities to drive innovation, tradeoff decisions, and cost-benefit analysis.
Leads or supports Peer Reviews, Wire Harness Assessments, and assembly plant launch and remediation activities.
Performs complex design analysis, develops engineering designs including subsystems, and implements engineering changes.
Defines and balances system requirements.
Plans and executes test and development programs.
Releases parts and subsystems for production.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience; experience in power signal or wire harness packaging is preferred.
Understanding of engineering theory and the operating principles of mechanical and electrical systems.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Prior hands-on mechanical or electrical troubleshooting and repair experience; relevant personal or hobby automotive experience is also valued.
Working knowledge of engineering software and systems relevant to the role.
Willingness to travel as needed for the position.

Master of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of post-graduation engineering experience; experience in power signal or wire harness packaging is preferred.

Prior hands-on mechanical or electrical troubleshooting and repair experience; relevant personal or hobby automotive experience is also valued.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.
The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role.
This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
