Full Job Description
The Meta Robotics Studio is seeking a Research Engineer. This role is pivotal in tackling challenging mechanical/electrical design problems including designing and developing complex robotics that balance ergonomics, performance, reliability, and usability while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. This role will be part of a cross-collaborative team responsible for initial concept development, analytical modeling, prototype design, construction, and testing; and it may involve research into Electro-mechanics, Sensor and Communication, and/or Planning and Control.

Responsibilities

Design and Development: mechanical and electrical system design and analysis problems for robotics structure, mechanisms, power transmissions, electric components, and systems integration while balancing ergonomics, performance, reliability
• Supporting parts manufacture: Working with internal/external partners to support part fabrication and complex custom sub assembly
• Assembly of robot: Hands on work in the lab constructing sub-assemblies to full system level robot prototypes
• Failure analysis: Build subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptions
• Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver technical solutions

Minimum Qualifications
• BS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineering and with experience in machine design or electrical component development
• Experience designing electromechanical assemblies (robotics, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation)
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX or similar CAD tools
• Experience with prototyping processes and materials
• Experience with embedded systems and communication protocols
• Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in power electronics and battery management programming
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Experience with simulation tools conducting finite element analysis: structural and modal
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience in Robotics and consumer electronic product design
• Familiarity with traditional mass production manufacturing processes, including injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal
• Experience with automation equipment design and custom machine builds
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
