You’ll lead a small team of product managers and act as the domain expert shaping strategy across product, engineering, UX, analytics, operations, and client-facing partners. About the Role / Team
This is a high-impact leadership role on the athenaCollector RCM product team. You’ll help redesign and modernize core medical billing and claim submission workflows so practices can capture charges, submit clean claims efficiently, and reduce administrative burden. Your work will directly influence claim acceptance rates, speed to payment, operational efficiency, and the overall client experience. This role sits at the center of athenaCollector’s claim submission strategy. By improving scale, reliability, and operational efficiency, you’ll help ensure practices can submit claims cleanly and get paid faster while supporting athenahealth’s long-term growth. Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Domain leadership & strategy

    • Serve as the recognized domain expert for claim submissions across internal and external stakeholders.

    • Own the multi-year product roadmap for submissions, balancing operational scalability, technical scalability, emerging market needs, and strategic priorities.

    • Evaluate and prioritize platform and workflow optimization opportunities based on customer input, internal needs, and market analysis.

    • Monitor payer policy changes, regulatory developments, industry trends, and competitor activity to inform product strategy.

    • Drive measurable improvements in claim acceptance rates, speed to payment, and internal operational efficiency.

  • Team leadership & development

    • Hire, coach, and mentor a team of 1–2 product managers.

    • Translate Collector and athenahealth strategy into clear team goals and individual development plans.

    • Provide stretch opportunities, customer exposure, and cross-functional leadership experiences to build team capability.

    • Deliver regular feedback and career development guidance.

    • Build a team that can independently own and drive product initiatives with appropriate oversight.

    • Foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Additional Job Responsibilities
  • Cross-functional collaboration & stakeholder management

    • Partner closely with operations, analytics, and engineering leadership to define future-state capabilities and target outcomes.

    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across R&D, operations, and customer success.

    • Influence without direct authority through clear communication, data-driven recommendations, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Execution & communication

    • Prepare and present executive-level updates on product status, strategy, market opportunities, and business outcomes.

    • Support product operations and communications to improve change management and adoption of new capabilities.

    • Ensure product vision, strategy, and requirements are clearly documented for efficient cross-functional execution.

    • Contribute to product management best practices and continuous improvement across Collector.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional leadership teams.

  • Strong stakeholder influence skills and the ability to communicate effectively with executives, customers, and technical teams.

  • Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution and know when to dive into details versus delegate ownership.
