Group Leader - Multimodal Transportation

Location: Oakland, CA

Compensation: $170,000 - $210,000 / year

Description

Alta is looking for a Group Leader for our Multimodal Transportation team based in our Oakland office. In this role you will oversee a team that specializes in traffic and parking studies, transit planning and analysis, environmental compliance, and active transportation and multimodal planning. Candidates may have a transportation planning or engineering background with experience in multimodal project planning and delivery. Your work will further Alta's mission of sustainable transportation, supporting projects that make a positive impact on communities in California and nationally.

Day to Day

Day-to-day responsibilities for this role include:
  • Supervise and support an Oakland-based team of multi-modal transportation planners, analysts, and modelers
  • Act as Project Director on a portfolio of multi-modal transportation projects including, traffic studies, parking studies, environmental compliance, transit studies, corridor plans, and active transportation plans, with responsibility for scope, budget and schedule oversight
  • Lead business development activities across the market area, nurturing relationships with clients and teaming partners, and supporting company pipeline and backlog targets
  • Support company leadership in the strategic growth direction of the multi-modal transportation practice, working closely with our active transportation, community planning, and traffic engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff across offices, helping their professional development and career growth.
  • Attend industry conferences and professional organization meetings to conduct business development and present on Alta's work.
  • Lead and mentor staff in best practices for project management and business development.
  • Collaborate closely with staff from Alta's other offices and with Alta's colleagues within the Trilon Group of companies.


Qualifications

Required
This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to
  • 15+ years of transportation planning or engineering experience, ideally in a consulting environment
  • Excitement to take on a challenging, growth-focused role
  • Aptitude for strategic business development, working to develop and maintain client and partner relationships, and demonstrating Alta's unique value to projects
  • Strong business acumen, understanding of project profitability and financial KPIs
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with proposal writing and business development
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, MS Project or equivalent

There are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or Traffic Engineer (TE) Licensure
  • Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification
  • Transportation planning/operations/ modeling experience: multimodal corridor studies or Vision Zero initiatives
  • Experience in traffic operations analysis using Synchro, VISSIM, and Vistro
  • Experience in travel demand modeling such as VISUM, TransCAD, or Cube
  • Active participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committees

Compensation

The pay range for this job in Oakland is $170,000-$210,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
