Full Job Description
Leidos' Ground Based Radar Digitization (GBRD) program is seeking a highly experienced Chief Engineer to lead emplacement of new and innovative radar systems. This is a large, multi-phase radar program with concurrent development, test, production, and sustainment activities. You will serve as the technical authority across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring design integrity, technical performance, and disciplined engineering execution. This role requires a systems-minded leader with the ability to direct technical work based on cost, schedule, risk, and requirements. Frequent travel to emplacement sites may be required. This is not your average engineering position. You will work on a team of the most talented engineers in the region who push you to be better every day. This is a fast-paced program with unique technical challenges that will be a rewarding milestone in any engineering career. Primary Responsibilities • Lead the technical team to design, manufacture, and deliver a radar system that meets all requirements. • Navigate software, signal processing, mechanical, and electrical engineering challenges with support from subject matter experts. • Oversee and manage the technical baseline. • Balance technical solutions with cost and schedule constraints. • Serve as the program's technical lead for engineering execution, system performance, and requirements compliance across all lifecycle stages. • Chair risk and engineering review boards. • Communicate technical progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership and government stakeholders. • Direct subsystem leads, IPT leads, and specialty engineers to ensure design maturity, integration, and risk mitigation. • Mentor and develop technical staff, fostering innovation, rigor, and collaboration. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. • BS + 15 years of progressive engineering experience, or MS + 13 years. • At least 5 years leading multidisciplinary teams of 10+ people. • Experience as a chief engineer on large DoD or aerospace programs. • Proven success leading complex, multi-disciplinary teams through development, integration, test, and production. • Strong technical judgment and communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. • Experience with design reviews (PDR/CDR), configuration management, and risk management. • Basic understanding of radar systems and signal processing. • Active DoD security clearance. • Resident of Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area. Preferred Qualifications • Experience leading programs over $250M. • Experience with radar, EO/IR, or advanced sensing technologies.
