Engineer IV

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates large and significant engineering projects and/or a number of small projects that are complex in nature and often functions as staff advisor and consultant by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides the diverse and advanced engineering and project management expertise associated with large and high-profile projects and/or a number of small projects with many complex features

Leads or conducts performance, cost and scheduling studies/evaluations that require advanced and innovative techniques and/or the modifications of standard practices and precepts

Provides the operational areas with highly skilled and diversified expertise

Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations and evaluations to diverse internal and external audiences

Represents the companys interests in advanced engineering matters

Identifies and resolves broad technical and/or organizational issues affecting the company goals and objectives

Provides advanced technical support as a staff advisor or consultant to, and interacts with other associates

Applies extensive engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards

Provides advanced and often highly innovative technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel on an as-needed basis

Functions as a lead for staff engineers, professionals, and technicians and as appropriate, provides training

COMPETENCIES:
Extensive knowledge and proven ability to apply diverse engineering principles, practices and regulations and to perform economic and decision analysis studies of complex issues in areas including, but not limited to, generation, transmission, distribution, system planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations

Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)

Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility application for improving system reliability

Ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols

Comfortable working in and around high voltage (up to 345kV) electrical facilities and equipment

Ability to forecast budgets

Demonstrated strong leadership skills, self-motivation, and advanced interpersonal skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) with five to seven years of experience.

Masters Degree in Engineering is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Professional Engineers License in the State of New Mexico is preferred.

Must possess current, legally valid drivers license and meet the Companys driving record requirements.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents

Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, speeches, and make presentations

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and managers of the organization

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal groups in a working or conference type environment

Represents the company's interests in engineering matters that may be varied and complex in nature

Interacts with and provides broad knowledge technical support to other associates

Applies engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards

Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel on a regular, on-going basis
