Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking an experienced Grading Superintendent to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of both business operations and project engineering, with a heavy emphasis on project management. This role requires expertise in grading and equipment operations, leadership in construction projects, and a hands-on approach to managing grading crews, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Current project locations include Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and surrounding areas.

District Overview

Kiewit's South Central District plays a key role in constructing infrastructure projects across the United States. We specialize in highway and heavy civil construction, including grading, excavation, trenching, bridge construction, concrete, asphalt paving, and more. Our commitment to safety, quality, and environmental responsibility makes us an industry leader in highway and heavy civil construction.

Location

This position requires mobilization from project to project across the South Central Region. Assignments will be determined closer to the start date. The role would start in Fort Worth, TX on a large infrastructure project - Candidates must be willing to travel and relocate as business needs dictate. Current project locations include Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage grading crews for various construction projects.
  • Oversee the movement of large quantities of dirt, topsoil, base stone, and graded solid rock.
  • Operate and manage heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, skid steers, rollers, and more.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and DOT requirements.
  • Track quantities, manage subcontractor payments, and handle change orders.
  • Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors for efficient execution.
  • Oversee erosion control, traffic control, quality control, and utility coordination.
  • Utilize project management software such as Microsoft Office, Vista Viewpoint, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
  • Maintain a high level of safety training and certifications.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, skid steers, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of GPS systems (TopCon, Trimble) for layout and grading.
  • Knowledge of cost management, planning, and scheduling processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Studio, Vista Viewpoint, and AutoCAD.
  • OSHA 30, MSHA, ATSSA Technician & Supervisor, TDOT Concrete Field Testing, CAT Safety, Leadership Training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • __7___ years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in earth-moving and infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience as a Superintendent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Project Engineer involved with grading operations (preferred).
  • Strong background in civil equipment operations.
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, committed to getting the job done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, ensuring that nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
