Team OverviewThe Government Relations team is responsible for advancing TransUnion's public policy strategy and protecting the company's interests across federal legislative and regulatory environments.
The team partners closely with senior business leaders, Legal, Compliance, and Communications to shape policy outcomes that impact the consumer data, financial services, and privacy landscape.
This role reports into the Vice President, U.S. Government Relations.This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview and Core ResponsibilitiesThis role exists to lead and define TransUnion's federal government relations strategy, strengthen our presence and proactively shape policy outcomes that directly impact the business across consumer data, privacy, and financial services.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with Members of Congress, staff, and key federal agencies to advance TransUnion's policy priorities and strengthen external influence.
- Accountable for advancing TransUnion's federal policy agenda and aligning advocacy outcomes with enterprise risk and growth objectives.
- Own the monitoring, analysis, and interpretation of federal legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business; translating policy changes into clear risks, opportunities, and action plans.
- Partner with internal business leaders to define policy positions and advocate for outcomes that support enterprise strategy, serving as a trusted advisor on policy risk and opportunity.
- Lead federal advocacy strategy, shaping legislative and regulatory outcomes by developing and executing targeted government relations strategies, including direct advocacy and coalition engagement.
- Represent TransUnion as a key external leader in trade associations, industry coalitions, and public forums to advance company positions and reinforce industry leadership.
- Develop and expand relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, and industry partners, to increase TransUnion's visibility and credibility.
- Provide leadership and oversight to external consultants, lobbyists, and cross-functional partners, ensuring alignment to enterprise advocacy strategy and high-impact execution.
- Provide ongoing education and strategic guidance to internal stakeholders on the potential impact of emerging policy and regulatory developments.
- Identify and lead enterprise-level, innovative solutions to complex public policy challenges and opportunities.
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for TransUnion PAC efforts, including event participation and guiding solicitation activities in compliance with FEC regulations
Required Knowledge and Experiences- 10+ years of public policy, government relations, or policy development experience - required to effectively navigate legislative processes, influence stakeholders, and drive outcomes in a complex federal environment.
- Experience in consumer data, data privacy, or financial services policy - critical to understanding the regulatory and legislative landscape directly impacting TransUnion's core business.
- Experience working within or alongside federal legislative or regulatory bodies (or in-house lobbying) - ensures credibility and effectiveness in engaging policymakers and understanding policy development dynamics.
- Strong relationships with House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committee offices - enables immediate impact and accelerates advocacy efforts without a long ramp-up period.
- Experience working with policymakers and staff - ensures balanced, bipartisan engagement aligned with current political dynamics and business priorities.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, external partners, or government relations resources in a strategic capacity
Required Technical Skills- Policy tracking and analysis tools (e.g., FiscalNote, Quorum) - used to monitor legislative and regulatory activity and support timely, informed decision-making.
- Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) - required for developing high-quality briefing materials, policy summaries, and executive communications.
- Regulatory and legislative research platforms - necessary for analyzing policy developments and preparing advocacy strategies.

Pay Scale Information:The U.S. base salary range for this position is $168,750.00 - $281,250 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual's education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion's annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
