Full Job Description
Serve as the government affairs expert, liaison, and strategist. Influences policy, manages relationships with legislative bodies, and assesses impact of legislation for Sentry

This position will require moderate travel across state lines.

WhatYoullDo:

As aGovernment Affairs Executive, you will serve as the expert and liaison for our organization, supporting the views and interests of the organization. You will do this by

  • Developing and implementing strategicand advocacyplans for achieving public policy, legislative, and regulatory results in an assigned state and local market that are favorable to the organization and consistent with the overall legislative strategy.

  • Developing, motivating, andmaintainingrelationships with legislators, regulators, and trade associations to promote the organization's point of view andestablishSentryas aresource oninsurance matters.

  • Recommending and managing outside consultants and lobbyists, including settingobjectives, defining missions, and evaluating performance to help move efforts forward.

  • Communicating relevant andtimelyinformation toappropriateinternalstakeholders andexecutiveswithinSentryand outside ofSentry.

  • Acting as a company representative before state policymakers, regulators, and trade associations.

What it Takes:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experienceRequired,with anadvanced degree(MBA, JD) being desired

  • Experience ina StateDOI, andNAIC, orregulatory agency dealing with insurance financial services,state legislatororpolitical campaign,think-tank public policy organization or trade association,corporate government relations department especially inthe financialservicesindustry

  • Ability to be a registered lobbyist in priority states

  • Familiarity with workers compensation and/or personal auto regulations/compliance

  • Familiarity with state and federal ethics and election laws

  • Excellent communications and influencing skills, including strong written and verbal presentation skills

  • Strong composure skills including the ability to work calmly and effectively in high stress situations

  • Quick analytical thinker, who was able to effectively synthesize, translate, and summarize complex policy topics for use by internal and external stakeholders

  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to self-direct work
