Position SummaryThe Director of Government Affairs will report to the VP of Government Affairs and will be responsible for helping to shape and lead the company's advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., select state capitals, and Canada and Mexico with a focus on healthcare and environmental policy issues. This position will help support the function of Government Affairs, through direct advocacy/lobbying at the federal level, within select states, and North America, administration of the STERIS Employee Political Action Committee (PAC), and engagement in AdvaMed, MDMA, NAM, GBA, select state associations, and other external groups.

Travel: This position requires 25% domestic travel
What You'll do as Government Affairs Director- Identify and monitor federal policy issues, regulations and legislation, with an emphasis on medical device regulation and environmental policy issues, that could impact the corporation's products, services or operations.
- Work with the appropriate functional and business units to develop policy priorities and positions and to execute advocacy strategies that support business initiatives and priorities.
- Establish and enhance STERIS's relationships with key policymakers and opinion leaders in Washington, D.C. in accordance with the corporation's policy and business interests.
- Leverage Company's consultants and trade associations to enhance relationship building opportunities.
- Represent STERIS in industry meetings and discussions on policy issues and initiatives of major importance to the corporation with national and state trade associations, as well as Canada and Mexico.
- Coordinate the implementation of the STERIS Employee PAC, promote employee engagement, plan activities to engage PAC members, and represent the Company at PAC events.
- Identify and monitor state policy issues, regulations and legislation, with an emphasis on healthcare and environmental issues, that could impact the corporation's products, services or operations.
- Support senior company representatives in their involvement in the activities of trade associations and other external groups.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other communications to inform stakeholders about policy developments and advocacy efforts.
- Involved in high-level decision-making processes within the organization, providing expert advice and guidance on policy matters.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities NeededRequired- Bachelor's degree
- Basic knowledge of the U.S. healthcare and environmental policy landscape, including the FDA and EPA.
- First-hand experience working in Washington, D.C. with policymakers and stakeholders (e.g. patient groups, professional societies, etc.), preferably on healthcare and environmental policy matters.
Preferred- Strong comfort level working within corporate environments, especially with senior management, and within industry groups.
- Experience managing or engaging PAC participation.
Skills- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and succinct manner.
- High level of self-motivation and ability to handle multiple tasks and issues at one time.

Pay range for this opportunity is $150,000 - $175,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation and long term incentives.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
