Full Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Navigation Engineer to join our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) department in either our Mooresville, NC or Huntsville, AL office. In this role, you will be responsible for developing navigation algorithms for Corvid's flight computer. This role includes expanding upon Corvid's flight-proven navigation code that operates across multiple flight regimes (subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic) and is integrated with multiple sensor types (tactical, navigation grades), as well as performing verification and validation activities with the flight computer prior to flight tests. You will work with tactical grade IMUs and GPS receivers, and also will be responsible for developing mathematical models and associated flight code for simulating and integrating new sensors (such as seekers) into the navigation code. You will work with Corvid's aerospace vehicle simulators, GPS simulators, and seeker scene generation software in this role.

The ideal candidate should enjoy developing mathematical models that mechanize aerospace navigation problems, simulate the problems in Python and C++, and enjoy implementing the solutions in flight hardware.

Typical tasking will include:
  • Navigation code development: Further mature Corvid's flight-proven navigation filter by developing new sensor models, develop appropriate interfaces from new sensors to the navigation filter, perform M&S verification and validation of the navigation algorithms, and perform hardware testing.
  • Develop Navigation system requirements: assist program managers and technical leads in developing navigation subsystem requirements. Support program reviews.
  • Support lifecycle of navigation products: Own the development lifeline for new navigation improvements (algorithms and sensors), including attending flight tests and performing post-test analyses. Develop ground test plans, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Seek improvements on navigation products: Investigate and search for new sensors, methods, or algorithms that can improve Corvid's baseline navigation products (flight computer and navigation filter code). Support the GNC department in integrating improvements in to the flight computer development timelines.
  • Business development: Seek new partners for integrating Corvid's navigation products.
  • Support modeling and simulation activities: Support other GNC department members and Corvid groups in vehicle performance studies through Monte Carlo simulations or other assessment methods.

Requirements:
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (Active Secret/Top Secret security clearance preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (Master's degree or Ph.D. with a GNC focus preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in navigation systems engineering, particularly Kalman filtering methods
  • Proficiency with C++, Python, Linux, and Git version control
  • Solid understanding of navigation sensor mechanics (e.g. theory of operation), alongside demonstrated experience of developing sensor integrations with a Kalman filter.
  • Familiarity with RF and IR seekers, and vision-aided navigation concepts
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing and test bench instrumentation preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear requirements and documentation

Corvid benefits include:
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan via our generous 401(k) Matching
  • Medical Insurance via Blue Cross - including a PPO and High-Deductible offering (with company HSA contribution)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) based on years of industry experience (not tenure)
  • Career Development and Continuing Education opportunities
  • Company provided life, long-term and short-term disability insurance
  • Incentive opportunities to reward strong performance and corporate growth
  • Attractive corporate facilities that include Lake Norman access, out-door activities (including grills) and more
