Job Description

This requisition is for a Technical Accountant position within GM Controllership team supporting GM Defense LLC (GMD), GM's wholly owned subsidiary defense and government-facing business unit. The role works closely with functional business partners and within Controllership to help ensure business transactions are both US GAAP and FAR compliant. The position responsibilities require attention to detail, technical analysis, communication, and a level of independent organization and prioritization of responsibilities is expected.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical accounting analysis on emerging transactions and contracts, document technical accounting white memos and present conclusions to leadership. Communicate accounting determinations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other business functions to research and provide guidance to properly account for and document complex transactions.
  • Lead technical accounting support for assigned GM Defense programs.
  • Support pursuit and new contract activity by monitoring opportunities, reviewing draft contracts, coordinating Controllership approval requirements, documenting approvals, and identifying accounting and operational requirements for execution.
  • Assist in reviewing customer contracts and contract modifications to ensure the appropriate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 including system setup requirements.
  • Identify and support correction of potential accounting risks and issues. Operationalize business transactions, in coordination with the greater controllership team, and ensure processes conform to SOX control framework as well as CAS and FAR/DFARS requirements.
  • Review proposed accounting standards or policies to identify potential impacts on the business and assist with the implementation of newly issued accounting standards.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls are adhered to across the accounting function.
  • Assist with accounting-related special projects and other financial reporting duties as assigned.
  • Support continued system configuration to ensure GMD's project-based SAP system aligns with accounting requirements, including advance payment and logistics-related configuration support. Support month end close and EAC review activities including system support, and post-close variance analysis.
  • Support recurring disclosures and governance activities, including accounting convention and purchasing disclosures, Controller Circular Letter updates and coordination, ISR and GPSC support, and other accounting-related special projects and financial reporting duties as assigned.
  • Support knowledge sharing and training across the business


Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business with 5+ years of professional experience in accounting, finance, and/or related business function.
  • 5 + years of experience in accounting functions, ideally technical accounting.
  • Active CPA license or CPA eligible
  • Experience researching, interpreting, and applying US GAAP principles
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience researching and resolving complex accounting issues.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for personal accountability, achievement, learning and continual improvement.
  • An ability to build consensus and relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office


Desired Skills
  • Aerospace and Defense / Government contracting experience
  • Experience with FAR, DFARS, CAS, project-based accounting, and contract-based revenue recognition
  • Master's degree in accounting, taxation, or business administration
  • Experience working at a large publicly traded company and / or public company audit experience
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Self-motivated yet functions well in a team environment


Location: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of (Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View), you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

  • The salary range for this role is $88,100 - $140,700. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
