Role Impact

The Global Director, Process Safety Management is responsible for the process safety function across Hexion's global manufacturing network, covering program ownership, compliance, risk reduction, and governance. This role directs global programs that strengthen safety performance and process safety management, and ensures the network operates safely, reliably, and efficiently through alignment, standardization, and measurable improvement of the systems that protect people and ensure asset integrity.

The Director serves as the global owner and administrator for the 14 core elements of Hexion's Process Safety Management system, converting audit findings, incident learning, leading indicators, and PSM maturity data into standards, training, and capital investment that reduce risk and raise program effectiveness across every site.

The Director reports to the Global Leader - Operations Excellence, works in a peer relationship with Engineering, Reliability, Operations, and EHS leadership, and leads through influence across regional program managers and site partners. Success in the role combines technical depth in process safety with disciplined program management, data-driven performance, and the credibility to escalate unfunded risk to executive leadership.

What You Will Do

Global Process Safety Management Leadership (60% of Time)
  • Serve as the global owner and administrator for 13 of the 14 core elements of Hexion's Process Safety Management system, excluding Mechanical Integrity, ensuring consistent implementation, compliance, and governance across all operations.
  • Lead the administration, training, and oversight of PSM elements including Management of Change, PHA and HAZOP, Operating Procedures, Incident Investigation, Compliance Audits, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Hot Work, Contractors, Employee Participation, Training, Emergency Planning and Response, and Trade Secrets.
  • Collaborate with the Reliability organization on Mechanical Integrity programs to ensure seamless system integration and data alignment.
  • Use data analytics and leading indicators to assess PSM maturity, identify systemic risks, and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain and improve global metrics, standards, and governance frameworks that ensure program effectiveness and accountability.
  • Drive data-informed decision making and standardized reporting processes across global functions.
  • Foster process safety awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement across all functions and levels of the organization.
  • Partner with senior and regional leadership to integrate EHS, reliability, and performance initiatives within site operations.

Budget Ownership
  • Develop and manage the annual global Process Safety Management budget, including the operating and capital expenditures required to maintain compliance and support strategic PSM initiatives.
  • Forecast spending requirements and manage budget performance against plan through the year.
  • Prioritize investments in partnership with cross-functional groups so that funding follows the highest risk reduction value.


Risk Reduction Planning and Capital Advocacy (30% of Time)
  • Establish and maintain a risk-based prioritization process for PSM-related capital projects.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering leadership to secure funding and execution of approved improvements.
  • Develop business cases and investment strategies that support risk reduction initiatives and demonstrate the financial value of process safety improvements.
  • Escalate significant unfunded process safety risks to executive leadership and participate in capital prioritization reviews to ensure risk-based decision making.
  • Partner with Engineering, Reliability, Operations, and EHS leadership to establish integrated annual funding priorities for PHA recommendations, Mechanical Integrity improvements, and process safety risk reduction initiatives.


Leadership, People Development, and Culture (10% of Time)
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to global and regional program managers and site partners to build technical and leadership capability.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, empowerment, and psychological safety that encourages proactive risk identification and problem solving.
  • Model Hexion's values of integrity, innovation, accountability, and safety in all leadership actions.
  • Support succession planning and the professional development of emerging leaders in the safety and reliability functions.


What You Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Environmental or Occupational Safety.
  • Ten to fifteen years of progressive EHS, process safety, reliability, or operations leadership experience in a manufacturing or process industry.
  • Deep working knowledge of Process Safety Management and its core elements.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management standards and practical experience managing multi-site compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive accountability, and achieve measurable results through collaboration.
  • Ability to influence and align leaders across functions and geographies without direct reporting authority.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing sites as required by the role.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering, safety, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional certification such as CSP, CCPS, or CMRP.
  • Experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or materials industries.
  • Experience leading or facilitating Process Hazard Analysis and HAZOP reviews and closing resulting recommendations.
  • Experience developing global standards, governance frameworks, and leading indicator programs.
  • Experience building capital business cases and securing funding for risk reduction projects.
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical Integrity programs and their integration with process safety systems.
