Job Description

Your Impact

As an Associate within Collateral and Margin Operations in Salt Lake City, you will play an important role in protecting the firm by helping manage counterparty credit risk and ensuring the accurate and timely movement of collateral. You will oversee daily margin activity across client portfolios, working closely with clients and internal stakeholders to resolve complex issues, maintain strong controls, and support the continued flow of business.

Your ability to analyze information, identify risk, and drive issues to resolution will directly contribute to the integrity of the firm's processes and the quality of the client experience. You will also have the opportunity to identify operational inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and help build more scalable and effective ways of working.

Our Impact

The Collateral and Margin team supports the firm's risk management framework by monitoring client portfolios, calculating margin requirements, managing collateral movements, resolving disputes, and maintaining robust operational controls. The team partners closely with Credit Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Sales, Trading, Corporate Treasury, Settlements, Middle Office, Front Office, and other Operations teams.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
  • Monitor client portfolios and issue or respond to collateral calls to help mitigate the firm's counterparty credit risk.
  • Perform margin calculations, investigate exceptions, and complete collateral settlement approval processing.
  • Calculate Standard Initial Margin Model, or SIMM, requirements and support associated margin processes.
  • Engage directly with clients to resolve collateral disputes, respond to inquiries, and support the onboarding of new client relationships.
  • Partner with Credit, Sales, Trading, Legal, Compliance, Middle Office, Front Office, Settlements, Corporate Treasury, and other Operations teams to resolve collateral-related issues.
  • Reconcile portfolios, investigate differences, and support collateral optimization activities.
  • Complete monthly interest and coupon settlements accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Perform control activities that support the integrity, accuracy, and effectiveness of the team's processes.
  • Manage intercompany margining activities, including net present value control validation and the application of relevant margin requirements across Goldman Sachs legal entities and jurisdictions.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement, and develop practical recommendations that enhance scalability, reduce risk, or improve the client experience.
  • Analyze complex issues, prioritize competing responsibilities, and escalate risks or exceptions appropriately.
  • Build trusted working relationships with clients and internal stakeholders through clear communication, strong judgment, and consistent execution.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and helping deliver against broader team objectives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Financial Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 - 5 of experience in an operational role within the financial services industry, or in a role involving comparable risk, margin, collateral, or transaction-processing responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and drive issues through to resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute accurately in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders across different functions.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to maintaining effective operational controls.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while taking ownership of individual responsibilities.
