Title: GL Accountant
Location: Oakton VA - hybrid 2x/week in office
Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $85-100K (depending on experience)

Overview: We are seeking an experienced General Ledger Accountant to support the accounting and financial reporting activities of a property portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring strong full-cycle accounting experience and prior exposure to property accounting, affordable housing, or HUD-funded programs.
Responsibilities: - Perform general ledger accounting for multiple properties, programs, or legal entities.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and adjusting entries.
- Complete monthly bank and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Review property-level revenue and expenses for accuracy and proper classification.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and property-specific reporting packages.
- Track restricted funds, grants, subsidies, and HUD-related financial activity.
- Assist with HUD reporting, compliance requirements, and audit documentation.
- Reconcile tenant receivables, security deposits, rental income, and subsidy payments.
- Review property operating expenses, management fees, and capital expenditures.
- Partner with property management, housing program, accounts payable, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Assist with annual audits, budgets, forecasts, and special accounting projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of general ledger or full-cycle accounting experience.
- Property accounting, affordable housing, or HUD program experience required.
- Experience supporting multiple properties, entities, or programs preferred.
- Strong knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with HUD reporting, housing subsidies, restricted funding, or nonprofit accounting is highly preferred.
- Experience with a large ERP or property accounting system preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
