Geothermal Reservoir Engineer

The Geothermal Reservoir Engineer is responsible for evaluating, modeling, and optimizing geothermal resources to support the development and operation of geothermal energy projects. This role applies reservoir engineering, subsurface characterization, thermal simulation, and production forecasting techniques to maximize sustainable energy recovery while minimizing technical and commercial risks. In addition, the successful candidate maybe expected to lead, manage and drive geothermal study projects to completion within budget and achieving quality delivery.

As a Geothermal Reservoir Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting geothermal resource assessments, including reservoir characterization, temperature evaluation, permeability analysis, and uncertainty assessment.
  • Developing and maintaining 3D static and dynamic geothermal reservoir models to forecast thermal and hydraulic performance.
  • Performing reservoir simulations to evaluate production and injection strategies, well spacing, thermal breakthrough, and long-term heat recovery.
  • Supporting geothermal play fairway analysis (GPFA), site screening, and opportunity maturation activities.
  • Estimating sustainable power generation potential and reservoir life under various development scenarios.
  • Evaluating reservoir risks, including temperature decline, pressure depletion, recharge potential, and reservoir connectivity.
  • As project manager, leading, managing, and driving multi-disciplinary projects to completion within budget while ensuring quality delivery
  • Collaborating with geoscientists, well engineers, drilling teams, and surface facility engineers to optimize field development plans.
  • Designing and evaluating production and injection well strategies to maximize thermal recovery and field economics.
  • Analyzing well test, pressure, temperature, tracer, and production data to update reservoir models and improve forecasts.
  • Supporting techno-economic assessments, project due diligence, and investment decision processes.
  • Preparing technical reports, client presentations, and development recommendations.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have Master's or PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Geoscience, or related discipline.
  • Have 3 to 5 years' experience in geothermal reservoir simulation and subsurface modeling.
  • Have knowledge of fluid flow in porous media, heat transfer, pressure transient analysis, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Have experience with reservoir simulation software such as CMG, Eclipse, Petrel, tNavigator, or equivalent.
  • Have understanding of geothermal systems, EGS, sedimentary geothermal, or subsurface energy systems preferred.
  • Have strong analytical, problem-solving, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Have proficiency with 3D geomodelling applications such as Petrel, Jewelsuite, Leapfrog a plus

Preferred Experience for Oil & Gas Reservoir Engineers Transitioning to Geothermal:

  • Reservoir characterization and field development planning.
  • Waterflood and injection management.
  • Production forecasting and decline analysis.
  • History matching and reservoir surveillance.
  • Integrated subsurface modeling, including 3D structural/geological modeling is a plus
  • Economic evaluation and reserves/resource assessment.
  • Minimum of 2 year experience in managing and leading multi-disciplinary geothermal projects
