About the roleReporting to the Superintendent Rock Mechanics, this role is to ensure that the rock mechanics and ground control tasks required for safe operation at Eleonore mine is performed using industry established standards and norms.
The Eleonore mine ore body is very complex and requires innovative and robust initiatives as well as understanding seismicity, ground control and rock fall risk management strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Regular underground inspections of mine working areas to inform geotechnical hazard models
- Reporting and documentation of underground inspections
- Collection of geotechnical data as per Eleonore's procedures. This includes planning geotechnical drilling, geotechnical core logging, scanline mapping, laboratory testing requirements and geotechnical database management.
- The incumbent will liaison and co-ordinate with the Geology department for smooth operation of geotechnical data collection program.
- Comprehensive geomechanical study of mine design and sequencing using numerical modeling of mining induced stresses
- Identification and communication of geotechnical hazards, including barricading of areas underground
- QA/QC checks of all installed ground support systems, including job observations of ground support installers
- Analysis of QA/QC data and recommendations for improvements to ground support installation
- Training of underground workforce in geotechnical issues
- Collection and analysis of geotechnical monitoring data
- Installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment
- Design and planning of rehabilitation
- Daily seismic report for communication of seismic risks to underground workforce
- Seismic re-entry inspections
- Investigations of rockfalls
- Design and planning of cablebolts for stoping and wide spans
REQUIREMENTS- BSc in geological or mining engineering, preferably with a specialization in geotechnical engineering or rock mechanics
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
- French and English speaking.

- Working knowledge of DIPS, UNWEDGE, MAP3D, MXRAP, IMS, Deswick and PHASE2 software
Working Conditions- Eleonore mine site (fly-in, fly-out from Montreal, Chibougamau, Matagami, Rouyn-Noranda, Val D'Or and Wemindji)
- Schedule: 8 days of work followed by 6 days of rest
