Full Job Description
As an Intermediate Civil or Geotechnical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale technically challenging world-class projects with an organization with a long and impressive history. KCB continues to be a leader in geoscience, engineering and environmental consulting and has an exciting future in several strategic markets with several large projects within Alberta and further afield in geohazard engineering for highways, several multi-year contracts involving designing and assessing dams for hydro/thermal power, irrigation, and mining.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Work on highway geohazard projects involving geotechnical site investigations; ground hazard identification, assessment, and mitigation design; earth and rock slope design; erosion control design for creeks and rivers; annual geotechnical instrumentation programs
  • Work on power generation, irrigation, and mining water design, assessment, and risk mitigation projects with hands on experience in dams and spillways, dam safety reviews, inspections, geotechnical instrumentation readings and installation, including assisting Engineers of Record on challenging structures
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team environment that fosters career development while working with environmental scientists, regulatory permitting specialists, hydrotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and mechanical engineers
  • Travel throughout Alberta with opportunities for international mining work.


If you are registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada, have a Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, we want to hear from you!

We value your:

  • Experience working with highway and railway geohazards;
  • Experience working with dam engineering and dam safety projects for hydropower, thermal; power, mining, and irrigation clients and familiarity with the Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Guidelines, Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management, and Mining Association of Canada guidelines.
  • Proven project management and design/analysis skills with experience in preparing drawings and specification for tenders
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting geotechnical instrumentation data
  • Strong initiative, innovation and commitment to technical excellence as well as your enthusiasm and drive toward long-term success
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making and coaching skills, especially your ability to train and mentor young professionals
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills including your experience in writing proposals, technical reports and general project correspondence
  • Exceptional team spirit, interpersonal skills and your ability to build long-term, successful relationships with our multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong business acumen and your ability to develop and grow relationships with a variety of clients
