GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job independently performs and oversees specialized testing and analysis of patient DNA, RNA, and other genetic materials to support the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of inherited and acquired diseases. This role involves performing complex molecular and genomic testing using advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), PCR, and other molecular diagnostic platforms while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards

The senior technologist is responsible for overseeing specimen processing, extraction, library preparation, sequencing, quality control assessment, data review, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and assays. They work closely with laboratory staff, pathologists, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely test results. Additionally, senior technologists maintain laboratory documentation, participate in assay validation and quality improvement initiatives, and adhere to CLIA, CAP, and other accreditation requirements.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs and oversees the performance high complexity molecular testing including tissue preparation, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, NGS library prep, sequencing, and result analysis.
  • Manages the operation, maintains, calibration, and troubleshooting molecular and genomics laboratory instrumentation.
  • Analyze, review, and verify molecular and NGS data to ensure accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage specimen processing, reagent preparation, inventory tracking, and detailed laboratory documentation.
  • Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other health care providers, as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory.
  • Communicates with manager, supervisor or co-workers concerning the needs of the laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations. Assums superviosry duties, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science.
  • 5 years of Experience in a Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory


Preferred
  • Master's in Human Genetics, Genomics
  • 5 years of Experience in a clinical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
  • ASCP or Equivalent Certification
