The GenFX Supervisor is the senior creative and technical leader in the GenFX department. This role is responsible for defining how generative AI is integrated into production VFX at scale. They’re responsible for architecting hybrid pipelines, setting quality standards and ensuring every GenAI augmented shot and sequence meets the highest standards. The Supervisor acts as the key liaison between Show Supervisors and the GenFX team, translating high-level creative vision into executable workflows. They drive innovation strategy around pipeline and workflow and develop the team's capabilities over time.

Creative Direction & Client Interface:

• Serve as the primary creative point of contact between the GenFX department and Show Supervisors, Producers and Management

• Interpret client and director vision and creative briefs, defining the visual baseline and approach for GenAI shots and sequences

• Lead creative reviews, providing art direction on all GenFX deliverables from rapid look-dev and post-vis through to final pixel delivery

• Make key creative decisions about when generative AI is the right tool versus traditional methods and communicate those trade-offs clearly to stakeholders

Workflow Architecture & Strategy:

• Design and oversee scalable hybrid pipelines that integrate generative AI outputs into traditional VFX workflows (Compositing, CG, DMP)

• Define and enforce standards for data flow, workflow conventions, color management and handoff protocols between GenFX and other departments

• Partner with the Pipeline developers and CG Supervisors to ensure GenFX tools complement existing workflows

• Evaluate emerging technologies (Gaussian splatting, new generative models) and determine their viability and readiness for active production

Quality Control:

• Define and enforce technical quality standards for all GenFX deliverables, covering color (ACES/OCIO), resolution, temporal consistency and photorealistic integration

• Establish and maintain QC protocols to detect GenAI artifacts and their remediation and ethics/compliance checks (copyright, likeness)

• Define the department's quality benchmarks and ensure they evolve as tools and client expectations advance

Team Leadership & Development:

• Assist with the development of GenFX Leads and Artists, setting clear delivery goals, career development paths and performance expectations

• Provide both artistic guidance and technical troubleshooting for complex generative setups

• Drive training strategy, identify skill gaps across the team, design or deliver training content and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and experimentation

Production Strategy & Risk Management:

• Drive bidding, scheduling and resourcing strategy for GenFX work across shows

• Communicate AI capabilities and limitations to producers and supervisors with clarity and accuracy

• Anticipate technical risks specific to generative workflows (temporal instability, model drift, hallucination) and build mitigation strategies into production plans

• 8+ years in high-end VFX (Film/Episodic), with at least 2+ years in a Lead or Supervisory capacity

• Deep understanding of generative AI methods and frameworks, specifically node-based generative systems (ComfyUI), diffusion models and proven experience designing scalable VFX pipelines

• Advanced proficiency in Nuke is essential. Ability to supervise complex projections, tracking, multi-pass compositing and template/sequence management workflows

• Strong working knowledge of Maya, Houdini, or Blender for blocking, depth map generation, and hybrid 3D/AI workflows. Understanding of USD/Alembic pipelines preferred

• A portfolio demonstrating successful integration of AI generated content into professional, photorealistic work at a sequence or show level

• Proven track record managing multi-artist teams, setting delivery goals, running dailies, providing constructive critiques and developing teams

• Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and advocate for GenAI approaches with sensitivity to traditional VFX workflows

• Python proficiency for automating ComfyUI workflows or writing custom Nuke gizmos and tools (preferred)

• Background in art, photography, matte painting or cinematography to inform lighting and composition decisions (preferred)

• Experience with LoRA training and dataset curation for production use (preferred)

$230,000 - $290,000 CAD a year

This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Vancouver, Canada. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
