Ellis Medicine is seeking an experienced General Thoracic Surgeon to join our growing Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Schenectady, New York.
This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon with an interest in thoracic oncology to join an established multidisciplinary environment and help expand access to advanced surgical care for patients throughout the region.
The practice has a strong emphasis on lung cancer, which represents the largest area of clinical volume. The incoming surgeon will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues across oncology, pulmonary medicine and other specialties through an established multidisciplinary lung cancer tumor board.

- Established VATS and minimally invasive thoracic surgery capabilities
- Practice includes lung, mediastinal, pleural and chest wall disease
- Established CT Surgery APP team with six APPs providing first-assist and clinical support
- In-house CT Surgery APPs provide first-call coverage
- Opportunity to help expand thoracic surgical services at Ellis Medicine
Clinical ResponsibilitiesThe incoming surgeon will provide comprehensive general thoracic surgical care with a significant emphasis on thoracic oncology.
Clinical responsibilities will include:
- Surgical management of lung cancer
- Evaluation and surgical management of lung nodules
- Mediastinal surgery
- Pleural surgery
- Chest wall surgery
- VATS procedures
- Robotic thoracic surgery
- Preoperative and postoperative patient management
- Daily inpatient rounding
- Collaboration with oncology, pulmonary medicine and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
- Participation in the multidisciplinary lung cancer tumor board
- Participation in the CT Surgery call rotation
- Management of urgent thoracic surgical cases as needed
Qualifications- Board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Licensed (or eligible) to practice in New York State
- Experience in general thoracic surgery
- Strong interest and experience in thoracic oncology preferred
- Experience with minimally invasive thoracic surgery
- Robotic thoracic surgery experience preferred
- Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills

Recruitment PackageEllis Medicine offers a competitive recruitment package designed to support your professional and personal transition to our organization, including:
- Guaranteed compensation of $800,000-$1,100,000 with the ability to earn more through productivity
- The posted salary reflects the starting range of total compensation and does not include productivity bonuses incentives related to quality and performance, extra shift incentives, and other forms of cash compensation as applicable to the position. Please note that this salary range is provided in accordance with State law and is subject to variation due to the factors noted above.
