JOB SUMMARY

The General Superintendent is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and execution of field construction activities on a large-scale heavy civil construction project. This position provides senior field leadership and is responsible for ensuring that construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.

The General Superintendent will oversee multiple construction work fronts and field operations, coordinating self-perform crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and support functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for all field construction activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee multiple construction work fronts, crews, and subcontractors.
  • Direct field operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Manage construction sequencing, short-term planning, and look-ahead schedules to support project milestones.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and resources to maintain productivity and schedule.
  • Oversee heavy civil activities including earthwork, grading, underground utilities, drainage, roads, foundations, and concrete construction.
  • Monitor daily production, progress, and field productivity; implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate activities between self-perform crews, subcontractors, engineering, QA/QC, safety, and project management.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and other field personnel.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, schedule, manpower, equipment, safety, and quality. Ensure field activities comply with project safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC to ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Maintain regular communication with Project Management regarding progress, staffing, equipment, schedule, safety, quality, and project issues.
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting the Company's safety culture.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 12+ years of progressive heavy civil construction experience
  • 5+ years in a senior field leadership role
  • Valid state driver's license and clean driving record
  • OSHA30

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
  • Working knowledge of applicable construction codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents such as scopes of work, and project schedule.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information.
  • Ability to be proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills required to understand and interpret data.
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for out-of-town travel assignments.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
