Position Description

The General Manager (GM) is a key member of the leadership team reporting directly to the VP/GM. This leader will have full P & L responsibility and for leading the profitable growth of this business unit with the primary focus of developing and deploying strategic growth initiatives (using 80/20 principles), developing strategic partnerships and driving organic innovation.

Travel: 15-25% - travel includes visiting Modine customers and plants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the leadership of cross functional business unit team (sales, operations, engineering, quality)
  • Manage business activities focusing on financial and strategic growth of the sub-vertical
  • Develop and deliver the annual operating plan (AOP) for the sub-vertical
  • Champion of 80/20 principles and commitment to deploy 80/20 tools throughout the organization
  • Drive operational best practices and continuous cost improvements deploying LEAN continuous improvement and 80/20 tools.
  • Establish and deploy plans and strategies to expand customer base, focusing on achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with the business strategy and objectives
  • Build and lead a dynamic organization and set example as a leader, coach, and mentor to build and strengthen the culture and skills of the team; promotes a culture of trust and accountability
  • Influence and drive priorities across functions in the business (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Product Engineering) as well as supporting functions (Finance, HR, Procurement)


Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance or Business required; MBA is preferred
  • Experience in 80/20 working environment with proven capability to utilize 80/20 thinking for analyzing all aspects of the business is preferred
  • 5-7 years' experience in directing cross-functional personnel
  • 3-5 years' experience in sales, engineering, finance and or operations
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills (a "change agent")

  • Solid business, financial and project management skills coupled with strategic planning experience
  • Experience in the growth and professional development of people
  • Very strong communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills
