HGA is seeking a General Manager to provide leadership for all operations within the assigned Gulf Coast East region, based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This role owns P&L responsibility for a portfolio of heavy civil and industrial projects, leading and developing a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators to drive safe, profitable, on-time delivery at scale. This position serves as the key bridge between field execution and company strategy, ensuring regional performance exceeds client expectations and internal targets.
Key Responsibilities- Own full regional P&L, delivering revenue, margin, and cash flow targets across a portfolio of projects typically ranging $10M-$100M+ each
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership to Project Managers, Construction Managers, Project Coordinators, and Project Controls teams
- Champion safety culture and drive industry-leading safety metrics through proactive leadership, audits, and continuous improvement
- Oversee project execution from preconstruction handoff through closeout, ensuring alignment with budgets, schedules, quality standards, and client requirements
- Drive resource optimization across the region, including equipment fleet utilization, workforce planning, subcontractor partnerships, and material procurement
- Partner with the Estimating and Preconstruction Manager on bid strategy, risk assessment, and go/no-go decisions
- Conduct project reviews, variance analysis, and recovery planning in collaboration with Project Controls
- Build, mentor, and develop talent, including succession planning and fostering a culture of accountability
- Manage client relationships, resolve escalated issues, and secure repeat/referral business
- Implement company-wide standards and best practices while adapting them to regional realities
- Support business development by identifying market opportunities and participating in key pursuits
- Prepare monthly regional performance reports and forecasts for executive leadership
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 12+ years of progressive leadership in heavy civil or industrial construction, including 5-7 years in senior operations leadership overseeing multi-project portfolios exceeding $100M annually
- Proven P&L ownership and success
- Deep expertise in construction means and methods
- Strong financial acumen, including the ability to analyze cost reports, forecasts, change orders, and cash flow
- Demonstrated leadership in building and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent safety record (OSHA 30 or equivalent) with a commitment to zero-incident performance
- Strong client relationship and negotiation skills
- Valid driver's license and willingness/ability to travel extensively within the region (40-60%)
