Purpose:
The Associate General Counsel provides strategic and practical legal guidance to support Sinceri Senior Living's operations, growth, and corporate initiatives. This role serves as a trusted advisor to operational leaders and corporate departments, managing a broad range of legal matters including employment law, resident claims and litigation, commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, licensing, and risk management. The Associate General Counsel partners closely with the General Counsel and executive leadership to identify legal risks, develop solutions, and support the organization's commitment to delivering exceptional senior living services.
Essential Job Functions:
Employment Law and Labor Relations
• Provide proactive legal counsel on employment-related matters, including employee relations, performance management, investigations, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, accommodations, and terminations.
• Advise Human Resources and operational leadership regarding federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Support responses to employment claims, administrative charges, agency investigations, and litigation.
• Review and update employment policies, procedures, handbooks, and training materials to ensure legal compliance and minimize organizational risk.
Resident Claims and Litigation Management
• Manage and oversee resident claims, pre-litigation disputes, demand letters, and litigation matters.
• Coordinate with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and outside counsel to ensure effective case management and resolution strategies.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and provide recommendations regarding settlements, litigation strategy, and dispute resolution.
• Support incident response efforts and assist operations leadership with claim prevention and risk mitigation initiatives.
Commercial Contracting and Contract Lifecycle Management
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor, service, software, technology, consulting, confidentiality, and business partnership contracts.
• Develop and maintain standardized contract templates and legal processes.
• Provide legal guidance throughout the contract lifecycle, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and risk tolerance.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to facilitate efficient contract execution and compliance.
Licensing, Permitting, and Regulatory Compliance
• Provide legal support for facility licensing, permitting, regulatory filings, and governmental interactions.
• Monitor healthcare, senior living, and long-term care regulatory developments and advise leadership regarding compliance obligations.
• Assist with regulatory surveys, audits, investigations, and corrective action planning.
• Support operational teams in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Operational and Corporate Legal Support
• Serve as a day-to-day legal resource for operations, Human Resources, Finance, Clinical Services, Sales and Marketing, and other corporate functions.
• Advise leaders on legal and business risks associated with operational decisions and initiatives.
• Assist with corporate governance, policy development, and strategic business projects.
• Develop and deliver legal education and compliance training programs for operational and corporate teams.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Counsel.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing with at least one state bar association.
• Minimum of 5 to 8 years of legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house counsel experience.
• Experience advising multi-site organizations, healthcare providers, senior living organizations, or similarly regulated industries preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in employment law, litigation management, commercial contracting, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to travel occasionally as business needs require.
