The General Counsel is responsible for representing the company on a national level, specifically as it relates to complex legal matters including operational process and procedures, risk assessment, legal proceedings as well as manage external counsel.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide legal advice relating to relevant legislation and business risks to all levels of the organization and to the board
- Draft legal documents, including and not limited to service agreements, lease agreement, amendments, and various other contracts
- Represent the business in litigation, tribunals, and negotiations, as needed
- Implement governance, compliance and legal policies to protect the business
- Train in-house legal team members and increase our internal quality of work
- Ensure external legal counsel, resources, and services are utilized efficiently
- Commission and notarize documents as needed
- Oversee annual returns and business licenses for all business entities
- Research regulations by reviewing regulatory bulletins and other sources of information
- Educate departments within the business on legislative and legal requirements relevant to our business
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, including active membership in various industry committees
- Monitor our active/inactive inventory of trademarks/IP patents
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information
- Maintains rapport with external regulatory personnel by arranging continuing contacts and resolving concerns
- Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONSSKILLS required
- Exceptional command of the English language
- Bilingual French is an asset
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of legal transactions and governance
- Compliance and risk mitigation mindset

- Multitasker with an extraordinary attention to detail
- Ability to inform others and build professional relationships
EXPERIENCE- Minimum 1 to 3 years of work experience as a corporate general counsel or related role, is a requirement
- Experience working in legal and in automotive finance or similar experience is as asset
EDUCATION- Licensed under provincial law society is required

SALARY: $145,000 - $175,000 CAD
