Atlantic Coast Mortgage, LLC ("ACM") seeks an experienced lawyer to serve as
General Counsel. This full-time position will report directly to the company's executive management team. The role requires good judgment, a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and superb contract review and drafting skills. In addition, the optimal candidate will be extremely organized and goal oriented.
Duties:
- Responsible for all legal matters, e.g., corporate governance, M&A, warehouse credit facilities, loan purchase agreements, employee and HR issues, post-closing and secondary issues, borrower complaints, office leases, vendor agreements and vendor management, legal compliance including state and federal mortgage law compliance, IP management, pre-litigation/ADR and litigation management, mortgage licensing, legal matters related to mortgage servicing, and creation and administration of legal budget
- Review, negotiate, and draft contracts
- Oversee day-to-day legal matters
- Hire and manage legal personnel
- Provide clear, cogent legal guidance to management
- Conduct legal research and draft guidance memos
- Review and revise internal policies and procedures
- Collaborate with and manage outside counsel
Experience and Skills:
- J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar
- 8+ years of transactional law experience from a law firm or in-house
- Prior employment as general counsel, associate corporate counsel, or the like at a residential mortgage lender AND/OR substantial and long-term representation of residential mortgage lenders while in private practice
- Familiarity with state and federal mortgage law compliance
- Experience negotiating and drafting loan purchase agreements, warehouse credit facilities, and corporate documents
- Deep understanding of the residential mortgage industry
- Proven ability and desire to take ownership of projects and to complete them in a timely manner
- A major plus, but not a prerequisite, litigation and M&A experience and a working relationship with high-quality outside counsel at a range of price points
- NOTE: ACM will consider candidates without mortgage industry experience who are otherwise highly qualified
Pay Range:
To provide greater transparency, we disclose a good-faith compensation range on all of our job postings, regardless of the position's location. This range has not been adjusted for geographic pay differentials and may not reflect the final rate offered if the position is filled in a location other than where it was posted. Compensation within this range is determined by a combination of factors, including experience, skill, and organizational needs. The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $300,000 annually.
