Full Job Description
WMYD Detroit is seeking an experienced and innovative Game Director, Sports to lead the strategic development and execution of compelling live game broadcasts. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the production, directing the broadcast team, and ensuring a seamless, engaging viewing experience for audiences across television and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate combines strong leadership, exceptional communication skills, creative vision, and expertise in live sports production to deliver high-quality broadcasts that align with network standards and audience expectations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Make high-level decisions while directing live game broadcasts, including calling camera shots, replay sequences, graphics, and commentary elements in real time.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, technical directors, graphics operators, replay teams, and on-air talent to deliver exceptional live sports coverage.
  • Develop and execute the overall look, feel, and style of game broadcasts to align with network branding and production standards.
  • Make quick, strategic decisions during live productions to adapt to changing game situations, breaking developments, and production needs.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the production crew to ensure alignment and successful execution of all broadcast elements.
  • Lead pre-production planning efforts, including storyboarding, graphics planning, production workflows, and camera blocking.
  • Review game footage and completed broadcasts to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all broadcasts meet network quality standards, company policies, FCC regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive production environment while maintaining high editorial and technical standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in live sports production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, television production, journalism, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Generally, 8+ years of experience in sports broadcasting, live television production, directing, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience directing live sporting events or other fast-paced live productions.
  • Experience working with broadcast control room operations, production workflows, and live event execution.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional schedules based on sports programming requirements.
