About the RoleWe're looking for a dedicated software engineer skilled in both front-end and back-end development to join our Motors Engineering team in Toronto. As a Member of Technical Staff 1, you'll build both customer-facing web experiences and the backend services that power them. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, product managers, designers, and architects to deliver scalable, reliable, and intuitive products for millions of eBay customers.

You'll contribute throughout the software development lifecycle-from design and implementation to deployment and production support.
What You'll Do- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality full stack software for eBay Motors products and services.
- Build responsive, accessible, and performant web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Develop scalable backend services, APIs, and business logic that power customer experiences.
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX Design, Data Science, and Quality Engineering to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term solutions.
- Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure software quality.
- Help improve engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational excellence.
- Continuously improve existing systems by reducing technical debt and simplifying complex solutions.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional experience building full stack web applications.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Marko, Vue
- Experience developing backend services using Java, Kotlin, or another modern object-oriented programming language.
- Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive web development, and modern browser technologies.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and experience integrating frontend applications with backend services.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software engineering best practices.
- Experience with Git, automated testing, and continuous integration and delivery workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have- Experience with GraphQL and designing solutions based APIs.
- Experience building distributed systems.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Interest in automotive technology or eCommerce platforms.

Additional DetailsThe base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
C$142,400 - C$190,100
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including RRSP eligibility, various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
