We are seeking an enthusiastic and meticulous
FTIR and PAS Technician to join our analytical laboratory team. This role is ideal for a candidate looking to build a career in the environmental sciences by working in our Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Photoacoustic (PAS) spectroscopy division. Under the mentorship of senior staff, you will be responsible for sample preparation, instrument calibration, spectral interpretation, and method development to support our FTIR and PAS product lines. The ideal candidate has strong foundational chemical or engineering knowledge, an eager attitude toward technical training, and a high level of attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:- Work independently and collaboratively in a laboratory environment.
- QC FTIR and PAS analyzers as they come off the production line.
- Calibrate, optimize, service, and repair FTIR and PAS instruments.
- Install and set up computer software to run FTIR analyzers according to customer's specifications.
- Develop, validate, and document gas quantification methods using the OPUS FTIR and CAI PAS software.
- Write engineering procedures and reports and update existing documentation.
- Assist customers in person and remotely using phone, E-Mail, or internet support.
- Attend regular productions meetings and present progress to management.
- Maintain laboratory notebooks, manipulate spectral databases, and manage spectral software libraries.
- Translate spectral data into clear, actionable technical reports for non-technical end users and cross functional teams.
Required Qualifications and Skills:- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Engineering, or highly related scientific field.
- Basic understanding of electronics, and ability to read wiring diagrams and engineering drawings.
- Strong computer literacy and exposure to basic data analysis tools (such as Microsoft Excel or specialized scientific plotting software), and a readiness to learn specialized spectroscopy software (e.g., OPUS, Symbion).
- Exceptional root-cause analysis skills and the ability to identify failures.
- Strong communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to follow multi-step protocols without deviation.
- Ability to work in the United States and travel internationally.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:- Hands-on experience with FTIR spectral databases and manipulation software.
- Familiarity with complementary analytical techniques, like Gas Chromotography (GC), Raman Spectroscopy (GC), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
- Experience in environmental chemistry or atmospheric gas analysis.
Compensation Range: $35/HR - $45/HR
