Position SummaryThe University of Mount Saint Vincent seeks an entrepreneurial, visionary, and execution-oriented leader to serve as the inaugural Founding Dean of the School of Technology and Trades. This includes developing its operating model, establishing a distinctive regional brand, and achieving clear enrollment and revenue goals. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will lead the creation, launch, and growth of a new academic unit focused on workforce-aligned associate degrees, certificate programs, industry credentials, and career-connected learning opportunities.

Essential Responsibilities- Provide entrepreneurial, academic, and operational leadership for the design, launch, growth, and long-term sustainability of the School of Technology and Trades.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic and business plan that addresses enrollment, revenue, staffing, facilities, program growth, and financial sustainability goals.
- Create an effective operating model that defines the School's organizational structure, governance, staffing, decision-making processes, and relationship with other University divisions.
- Lead the development, approval, implementation, and continuous evaluation of associate degrees, certificate programs, industry credentials, apprenticeships, and other workforce-aligned offerings.
- Establish and oversee policies for Prior Learning Assessment, competency-based education, and the awarding of academic credit for industry certifications, military training, apprenticeships, workforce credentials, portfolios, and professional experience.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, trade unions, healthcare organizations, workforce agencies, government entities, community organizations, and educational partners.
- Develop pipelines for internships, apprenticeships, clinical experiences, employment, and career advancement.
- Establish clear measures of success, including enrollment, retention, completion, credential attainment, employment placement, wage growth, employer satisfaction, revenue, and external funding.
- Recruit, supervise, develop, and evaluate faculty, staff, program directors, and industry practitioners.
- Oversee the School's budget, facilities, equipment, technology, resource allocation, and capital needs.
- Pursue grants, workforce contracts, philanthropic support, corporate sponsorships, employer-paid education, and other sources of external revenue.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, academic governance requirements, state and federal regulations, licensing expectations, and University policies.
- Integrate emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, and ethical technology practices throughout the School's programs and operations.
- Establish industry advisory councils and other mechanisms to ensure ongoing input from employers, students, alumni, and the community.
- Provide regular reports to the Provost and University leadership on progress, risks, financial performance, enrollment, student outcomes, and strategic opportunities.
Requirements- Terminal degree from an accredited institution.
- Significant academic leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success developing workforce-focused academic programs.
- Knowledge of accreditation, academic governance, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience building industry and community partnerships.
- Excellent communication and organizational leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience launching a new school or division.
- Experience with workforce or technical education.
- Expertise in Prior Learning Assessment and competency-based education.
- Experience securing grants or external funding.
