The job:

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Buildertrend, you'll help change the way the world builds by creating AI solutions that make work smarter for the teams who support our customers. As the first technical hire on our Central AI Enablement team, you'll define how AI is built across the business, turning complex challenges into practical systems that improve how Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Finance and People teams operate. Your work will shape technical standards, influence company-wide AI strategy, and deliver measurable business impact.

What you will do:
  • Own the technical architecture for AI across GTM and G&A; design and build agentic systems, automated workflows, and LLM-powered integrations that operate reliably at scale.
  • Set the engineering standards for how AI gets built into Buildertrend, including reusable patterns, integration frameworks, evaluation practices, and deployment approaches that others can build on.
  • Architect integrations and data pipelines that connect Buildertrend's business tools, including Salesforce, Gong, Databricks, and others, into cohesive, AI-powered workflows.
  • Lead build-vs-buy decisions on AI tooling investments, providing clear technical recommendations in partnership with the Director of AI Enablement to senior leadership.
  • Stand up evaluation and benchmarking frameworks to measure AI output quality, reliability, and business impact against real baselines.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems from non-technical partners into well-scoped technical solutions and drive them to completion independently.
  • Serve as the technical voice of the Central AI Enablement function in cross-functional conversations, including with engineering leadership and business VPs.
  • Embrace using AI as a tool to enhance your work, while remaining open to learning, applying critical thinking, and owning the quality of your final work

Who you are and what you need:
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years working hands-on with LLM API's, agentic frameworks, or AI automation in a production environment required.
  • Prior experience at a B2B SaaS company is highly preferred.
  • Experience leading technical direction for complex systems in a staff, principal or technical lead capacity.
  • Strong Python and/or JavaScript skills, with experience with API integrations, webhook design, and data pipeline architecture.
  • Experience designing and delivering multi-step AI systems.
  • Comfortable working across the GTM tech stack, including Salesforce, Gong, or similar, and able to ramp quickly on new tools without support.
  • Understanding of how sales and marketing funnels work, what revenue teams care about, and how to size and measure the impact of what you build.
  • Strong communicator who can present technical tradeoffs, architectural decisions, and build-vs-buy recommendations to VPs and senior leadership.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive clarity from it.

We are giving you:
  • Exceptional health packages, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus life insurance and short- and long-term disability benefits
  • A 401(k) plan with Buildertrend matching contributions to help you plan for the future
  • Generous paid time off, 11 paid holidays, plus personal days to make sure you have time to recharge
  • Parental leave and paid sabbaticals to support you during life's big moments
  • Volunteer time off - because giving back matters
  • Wellness program and onsite fitness center to keep you feeling your best
  • Opportunities for hybrid or remote work to give you the flexibility you need
  • Technology reimbursement to help cover costs for the tech you need to do your job from home
  • Free daily lunches when you're at our HQ office, plus monthly events to connect with your team
