Full Job Description
SkillStorm is actively seeking full-time Senior Software Developers for Forward Deployed Engineer roles for our government agency clients. An ideal candidate will have 2 years of Client-Facing consulting experience with a strong technical mindset, exceptional problem-solving skills, and logical reasoning abilities. You will spend 6 weeks collaborating in team-based settings, undertaking diverse, real-world projects to prepare for seamless integration into our clients' operations. Once training is complete, you will be deployed to our enterprise or government clients, ready to have an immediate impact on day one.

Forward Deployed Engineer Requirements:
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, MIS, IT, or related STEM discipline
  • 2 Years of previous W2 TECHNICAL experience required, including software development, application engineering, systems integration, or technical consulting
  • Must be open to work in the DC/Northern Virginia area
  • Must be eligible for a Secret US government security clearance
  • Strong experience with API development and software programming using Java/J2EE, .NET/C#, JavaScript/Node.js, or Python
  • Experience designing and consuming REST and/or SOAP integrations using Spring Boot, .NET Core Web API, Express, Flask API, or similar
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills (Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server) and understanding in data modeling and normalization concepts
  • Experience analyzing business processes, facilitating requirements discussions with stakeholders, and translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Demonstrated experience delivering in Agile/Scrum environments using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. under SkillStorm's W2; not a C2C position. EOE, including disability/vets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with a logical mindset to tackle complex challenges to develop effective and innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, facilitating clear and effective interactions with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Ideal candidate will possess familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, Cloud, basic web UI development, and test automation

Forward Deployed Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Build and deploy agentic AI applications within the client's cloud environment.
  • Own delivery of a client-facing capability end to end, from problem framing through deployment and handoff.
  • Work embedded with client engineers and stakeholders inside their environment, tooling, and constraints.
  • Translate ambiguous business needs into scoped specifications and defensible architecture.
  • Design and build applications and integrations on the client's stack and apply their standards and security requirements.
  • Set patterns other engineers follow, such as reference implementations, coding standards, review practice.
  • Brief client stakeholders on progress, tradeoffs, and risk; escalate early with options.
  • Apply AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery and build AI-enabled capability where it fits the client mission.
  • Produce documentation that outlives the engagement - architecture decisions, runbooks, turnover material.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues in client systems with discipline appropriate to a government environment.
