QualificationsThe RoleWe're hiring a Forward Deployed Tax Engineer to partner with customers during onboarding and ensure day-one success. You'll lead a structured implementation that transitions teams from prior solutions, configures their Black Ore instance, runs readiness and performance checks, maintains a tight feedback loop between our R&D and GTM teams, and trains end users so they're productive immediately. This is a cross-functional role for someone with a strong tax background who builds trust with customers and internal stakeholders alike.
What You'll Do- Own onboarding: Run kickoff, project plan, and weekly cadence; keep timelines and expectations clear.
- Configure & connect: Set up environments, SSO/roles, and integrations; verify data flows and basic controls.
- Readiness & performance checks: Execute structured test plans on representative workflows; document results against agreed success criteria.
- Issue triage & feedback loop: Capture edge cases and user feedback; file crisp tickets and partner with AI/Data/Engineering on resolutions.
- Enablement: Deliver training, quick-reference guides, and best practices; prepare admins and practitioners for go-live.
- Handoff & scale: Establish exception workflows and dashboards; transition to Customer Success with clear operating playbooks.
Basic Qualifications- 6-10+ years of experience: Most recently as a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager in public accounting
- 4+ years of 1040 experience: Hands-on 1040 prep/review in a CPA or tax services setting.
- Tax Software Experience: Familiarity with some of the following: CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters GoSystem, Thomson Reuters UltraTax, Intuit ProConnect, Intuit Lacerte, Intuit ProSeries, Drake.
- Detail Oriented: Strong tax review/tie-out skills to ensure accurate automation and reliable results.
- Commercial: Able to communicate with customers, build trust, and manage expectations.
- Written/Verbal Communication: Clearly articulate findings and next steps to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Organization & Project Management: Plan, track, and deliver against an implementation timeline with clear ownership.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with modern tools (e.g., ChatGPT) and quick to learn new products and workflows.
Preferred Qualifications- Credential: CPA or EA.
- 2+ years of 1065 experience: Hands-on 1065 prep/review in a CPA or tax services setting, working with large, complex partnerships
- OCR Solution Experience: Prior use of legacy scan-and-populate tools such as SurePrep 1040SCAN, CCH AutoFlow, GruntWorx (required).
- Portal & Document Management Experience: Experience with leading tax DMS/portal solutions (e.g., CCH, Thomson Reuters, SafeSend, and comparable firm systems).
- Modern AI/Automation Exposure: Experience adopting new AI-driven tax solutions; strong user of productivity/AI tools.
- Entrepreneurial/Process Builder: History of creating new processes/playbooks in fast-moving environments.
