Full Job Description
The Role

We're hiring a Forward Deployed Accountant (FDA) - a CPA embedded inside our customers' tax workflows. You'll be the one dedicated person a firm partners with for everything related to Black Ore: onboarding, training, questions, issues, and changing how their tax prep process actually runs. The role spans the full customer lifecycle: you'll support active deals as the tax-technical expert on demos and evaluations, then own your accounts after signature - driving adoption, monitoring usage, and keeping firms healthy through renewal. You'll also serve as one of the company's most important sources of product input, translating what you observe inside customer firms into evidence our R&D team can build against. This is a role for someone with deep public accounting experience who wants to work at the intersection of tax practice and AI.

What You'll Do
  • Own your book of accounts end-to-end: Run kickoff, project plans, and weekly cadences; you are the firm's dedicated partner from signature through renewal - not a handoff point.
  • Drive adoption and change management: Adopting Black Ore means changing how a firm prepares returns. You'll train staff, embed the product in their workflow, and project-manage that change.
  • Monitor usage and intervene early: Track how much contracted volume your firms actually run through the platform; proactively re-engage accounts that fall behind before they become renewal risk.
  • Support the sales team pre-sale: Join demos and prospect calls as the tax-domain expert; unblock AEs on tax-technical, CCH, and product questions during active deals.
  • Flag expansion signals: When a firm approaches capacity, surface it to the Account Executive, who owns the commercial conversation.
  • Feed the product loop: Capture edge cases and user feedback with named-account evidence attached; partner with AI/Data/Engineering on resolutions.
  • Configure and verify: Set up environments, roles, and readiness checks on representative workflows against agreed success criteria.

Qualifications
  • CPA or EA credential
  • 3+ years of experience preparing tax returns
  • 2+ years of 1040 experience: Hands-on 1040 prep/review in a CPA or tax services setting
  • Tax software experience: Familiarity with some of the following: CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters GoSystem, UltraTax, Intuit ProConnect, Lacerte, ProSeries, Drake
  • Detail oriented: Strong tax review/tie-out skills to ensure accurate automation and reliable results
  • Commercial: Comfortable in front of customers across the lifecycle - from pre-sale demos to difficult adoption conversations - building trust and managing expectations
  • Written/verbal communication: Clearly articulate findings and next steps to internal and external stakeholders
  • Organization & project management: Plan, track, and deliver against implementation and adoption timelines with clear ownership
  • Tech-savvy: Comfortable with modern AI tools and quick to learn new products and workflows

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of 1065 experience: Hands-on 1065 prep/review with large, complex partnerships
  • OCR solution experience: Prior use of legacy scan-and-populate tools such as SurePrep 1040SCAN, CCH AutoFlow, GruntWorx
  • Portal & document management experience: CCH, Thomson Reuters, SafeSend, or comparable firm systems
  • Customer-facing experience: Prior CSM, implementation, or client-advisory work alongside tax practice
  • Entrepreneurial/process builder: History of creating new processes and playbooks in fast-moving environments

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary and equity based compensation
  • Best-in-Class health benefits
    • Platinum, 100% Employer-paid medical, dental and vision insurance
    • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
    • Additional Health programs (e.g., One Medical, Talkspace, Kindbody)
  • 401K, Roth 401k and other employer sponsored investment benefits
  • Parental Leave
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Relocation support to Austin or NYC
