In this position...

You'll work at the intersection of battery chemistry, data, and competition turning test results into physics-based models that translate into faster lap times. If you love seeing your work make a measurable impact, this is where that happens.

You'll be part of a small, high-performing motorsports team where ownership is high, ideas are tested fast, and continuous improvement is the mission.

You'll apply your modeling expertise to Ford Racing's current battery systems, then set the direction for future methods and battery designs.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...
  • Build and refine electrochemical models using tools like MATLAB and COMSOL to drive future development and guide decisions on cell chemistry and format direction.
  • Build and refine thermal and equivalent circuit models using tools like GT-Suite and Simulink to predict how battery cells will perform under real track conditions.
  • Work with array design engineers to shape how cells integrate into the battery array, informing cooling methods and heat rejection designs for optimum system efficiency.
  • Provide technical expertise to a global team of internal and external stakeholders spanning Ford Racing production and motorsport vehicles.
  • Guide testing strategies to ensure data needed for models are generated effieciently. Define requirements for battery management systems as they relate to cell state estimation, life, and operational efficiency.


Qualifications

You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field: Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a relevant field
  • 2+ years of direct experience modeling Li-Ion battery cells
  • Competency in relevant engineering software (e.g., COMSOL, GT-Suite, Python, MATLAB Simulink)
  • Working knowledge of battery cell test methods, chemistry, and key design parameters
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required

Even better, you may have...
  • Master's / Ph. D in a related field: Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a relevant field
  • Experience with 3D heterogeneous chemistry modeling
  • Hands-on experience producing lab-scale Li-Ion battery cells
  • High Voltage Safety Training
  • Competitive spirit and interest in professional motorsports

This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100-$109,300., This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500., This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900., This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
