Full Job Description
The Flow Cytometry Laboratory Coordinator plays a key role in supporting research operations through the management of a flow cytometry facility, supervision of assigned staff, and coordination of user support and education activities. The Flow Cytometry Laboratory Coordinator impacts routine facility operations, promotes quality and compliance standards, and contributes to independent research initiatives.

Within this environment, the Flow Cytometry Laboratory Coordinator works closely with researchers, laboratory personnel, and facility users to ensure reliable instrument performance, effective training programs, and high-quality research support. The Flow Cytometry Laboratory Coordinator helps advance the mission of UT MD Anderson through operational excellence, scientific collaboration, and laboratory stewardship.

The ideal candidate will have education and experience that support flow cytometry operations, laboratory management, instrumentation oversight, user training, quality control, and research collaboration. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to supervise staff, support experimental design, maintain compliance and safety standards, and effectively train and educate facility users.

Responsibilities
Facility Functions, Equipment & Quality Control
• Oversee the daily operation of the flow cytometry facility.
• Manage inventory, ordering, and logging of supplies and reagents.
• Administer quality assurance, billing, safety, and ancillary administrative functions.
• Operate analytical and sorting flow cytometers.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot flow cytometry instrumentation.
• Incorporate and maintain a quality control program within daily facility operations.
• Review quality control results and recommend improvements when appropriate.
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for all facility procedures.
• Maintain daily work schedules for Flow Cytometry Specialists.
• Ensure facility work is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Research Design Implementation & Data Analysis Interaction
• Manage data and records associated with facility operations and research support.
• Troubleshoot research and laboratory process issues.
• Assist investigators and users with experimental and protocol design.
• Collaborate with research personnel to support study implementation.
• Work with human blood, blood products, and tissue specimens.
Laboratory Development, User Support & Training
• Support all aspects of user interaction, education, and facility services.
• Train core facility users in the operation of flow cytometry equipment.
• Promote development of independent equipment users.
• Conduct competency assessments and document training completion.
• Ensure newly hired Flow Cytometry Specialists receive appropriate training.
• Provide ongoing technical guidance and support to users and staff.
• Attend continuing education programs to maintain current knowledge and skills.
Staff Supervision & Operational Leadership
• Supervise assigned staff supporting facility operations.
• Coordinate daily operational priorities and workflow.
• Monitor compliance with established facility procedures and standards.
• Promote efficient, safe, and compliant laboratory practices.
Additional Duties
• Support independent research activities related to facility operations.
• Maintain compliance with institutional safety and operational requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Master's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: Four years flow cytometry experience.
Preferred: Research-oriented flow Cytometry background, experience with multiple flow Cytometry, multicolor, multi-laser analysis and sorting, familiarity with Flow Cytometry data analysis software packages and management of a core facility or flow lab. Some supervisory experience.
