Description
The City of Anaheim Department of Public Works seeks a dynamic Fleet Supervisors to support the Operations & Maintenance Division. The Fleet Supervisor will plan, supervise, coordinate and control the daily activities related to the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of City vehicles and equipment. As the Fleet Supervisor, you will oversee daily shop operations by scheduling weekly workloads, managing work order intake and documentation to completion, assigning and coordinating technician workloads, reviewing quality control, ensuring exceptional customer service, and leading a team of skilled maintenance professionals to achieve operational and performance goals.

The ideal candidate will possess any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, including journey level mechanic experience in fleet operations, vehicle repairs, mechanical, paint and body, and/or specialty shop up fitting.
Essential Functions
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Monitor and direct the daily activities of Fleet shop operations; prioritize work to be completed.

Supervise, interview, train and motivate employees, assign and evaluate work, discipline employees according to established City procedures; conduct performance appraisals; inspect completed work to ensure proper work performance.

Receive requests for work, set priorities, and assign work.

Coordinate new vehicle "in" processing, including assigning the work to various sections; track vehicles progress and job status; perform Quality Control Inspections; and process documentation to ensure vehicles are assigned to the proper status and accounts.

Prepare electronic repair orders, requisition materials and supplies; prepare and maintain time sheets, logs, vehicle files, and other activity reports.

Determine whether work can be done using City resources or sent out to a vendor.

Coordinate used vehicle "out" processing and equipment disposal with Purchasing Division and auction vendors.

Assist, troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions, advise technicians on the course of action and work methods; may test drive vehicles to ensure repairs are satisfactory.

Monitor warranty recovery program and prepare warranty claims.

Coordinate transportation of vehicles to/from vendors for repair.

Interface and provide customer service to a variety of customers, vendors, manufacturers, departments, and shop personnel regarding status of vehicles or equipment in for repair.

Maintain contact with other supervisors about the status of repair work so they may reassign work, if necessary.

Use scanners, diagnostic tools, and other technology; maintain shop equipment and tool inventories.

Ensure technicians follow established safety guidelines.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

In addition, when assigned to Welder Hydraulic:

Weld metals using gas, heliarc and acetylene welding equipment in the shop or at fieldwork sites.

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders, lines and control valves on forklifts, aerial devices, cranes and miscellaneous specialized equipment.

Use metal lathe, drill presses, power metal saws, and hydraulic press (100 ton) in fabricating tools and equipment.

Design and fabricate parts for equipment.

Evaluate that OSHA Ariel inspections are completed and logged per required deadlines.

Qualifications
Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the knowledge and abilities are as follows:

Experience: Journey level mechanic experience in fleet operations, vehicle repairs, mechanical, and/or paint and body. Specialty shop up fitting highly desirable.

Knowledge of: Principles of internal combustion engines, electrical, electronic and mechanical systems; vehicle dynamics; emission control systems and vehicle computer systems; simple report writing; principles of supervision and training techniques; and applicable safety requirements; principles of welding and mechanical repair, operation of heavy equipment, hydraulics.

Ability to: Organize and direct the work of subordinates; set goals and establish priorities; operate a computerized fleet maintenance system; make sound judgments; use mechanics tools; organize and perform gas, heliarc and acetylene welding and use basic and sophisticated machine tools; read, interpret, and comprehend various technical manuals (and other job related manuals) and diagrams; establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; clearly communicate both orally and in writing.

The following license/certificate are highly desirable.
  1. ASE Masters certification in Automobile and/or Medium/Heavy Truck highly desirable.
  2. Possession of an Emergency Vehicle Technician certification highly desirable.
  3. Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License is desirable.
