Fleet Manager

Photech Environmental Services Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking a Fleet Manager for our facility in Niagara Falls, Ontario to oversee it's Ontario fleet of hazardous waste transportation assets and related operational staff of drivers and Environmental Specialists. Currently the fleet is comprised of 11 employees, covering 9 power units and a variety of accessories, including dry van, vacuum tankers, roll-off and dump trailers.

Photech Environmental Solutions provides hazardous waste disposal services to industrial, research and institutional facilities across Ontario, where chemical wastes are sorted, packaged and removed from generator facilities and shipped to our hazardous waste transfer and processing facility in Niagara Falls, ON. Photech employs highly skilled chemical technicians who work within our Lab Pack processing operations, where a Lab Pack is then manually deconstructed for bulk consolidation within our Lab Pack production space.

The successful candidate will use their strong organizational, problem-solving, and technical skills, along with leadership and communication abilities to manage teams, coordinate logistics, and maintain fleet compliance with all company policies and procedures, and applicable regulations. They will balance company operational demands with strategic planning to ensure the fleet contributes to the company's overall success through the reduction of operational costs, improvement in productivity, and the insurance of a safe and reliable transportation system. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Schedule regular inspections, coordinate repairs, and maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Team Management: Recruit, train, supervise and mentor company equipment operators & field based environmental specialists, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensuring that all vehicles and drivers comply with Provincial, and Federal regulations, including TDGA, Hours of Service, Licensing & Registration.
  • Dispatch: Collaborate with the company customer service team on customer requests and create the daily service schedule.
  • Operational Efficiency: Optimize routes, monitor fuel usage, track vehicle locations, and manage scheduling to maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Budget and Cost Management: Monitor expenses related to fuel, maintenance, repairs, and other operational costs, identifying opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Strategic Planning: Consult with Company management to develop equipment replacement cycles, and technology adoption to enhance overall efficiency and support organizational goals.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle documentation, reporting, and coordination with vendors, department leaders, and upper management to ensure smooth fleet operations
  • At times may be required to drive a commercial truck

Basic Requirements:
  • 10-15+ years of truck driving experience
  • 5 years in a leadership role
  • Intermediate Microsoft 365 experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in the hazardous waste industry
  • Post secondary chemistry background and 5 years of application as a chemical technician/environmental specialist in the hazardous waste industry.
  • Experience of the Samsara and fleet management software
  • Active commercial drivers license
