Full Job Description
Based at the Oakland Maintenance Facility in Oakland, California, the Fleet Manager reports directly to the Chief Mechanical Officer and serves as the agency's lead authority for fleet maintenance, technical compliance, reliability, and rolling stock performance. Utilizing extensive firsthand knowledge of North American passenger rail equipment, this position develops, implements, and oversees maintenance programs, inspection processes, quality assurance initiatives, and fleet reliability strategies for all rolling stock maintained and operated by SJRRC. The Fleet Manager is responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe, reliable, and regulatory compliant condition while maximizing fleet availability and State of Good Repair. This position exercises independent judgment in evaluating contractor performance, identifying operational risks, developing corrective actions, and establishing technical standards and maintenance practices. The position collaborates closely with the Equipment Services Manager, maintenance contractors, Joint Powers Authority partners, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to ensure the successful execution of maintenance programs and long-term fleet objectives.
