Job Description

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the management and daily operation of specific garages in term of staff, maintenance, safety and third-party vendors within a region, as well as responsibility for the implementation and achievement of Fleet operational programs and policies within the Central US Region.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing company owned vehicles, garages, and mechanics to provide a safe and dependable fleet of vehicles Responsible for ensuring and maintaining a safe environment through compliance of all Company, Local, State and Federal mandates or programs.
  • Create a Continuous Improvement environment by improving products, service, and processes with the objective to reduce waste within the Region while striving for efficiency and profitability.
  • Oversee mechanics that perform all mechanical repairs needed to all types of vehicles/equipment and to make proper decisions to make sure all vehicles/equipment are ready to safely operate when needed.
  • Knowledge on how to perform light and heavy-duty repairs in order to coach and/or train mechanics.
  • Champion special projects to achieve budget and productivity goals.
  • Utilize Fleet tools and programs to manage defined standards.
  • Complete and lead fleet audit compliance and correction within area of responsibility.
  • Manage preventive maintenance program compliance, maintain accurate records on all services and DOT /State inspections performed.
  • Complete incident reports and conduct full incident investigation to determine root cause.
  • Administration of Fleet Department Safety programs within the region.
  • Review purchasing programs and manage parts inventory.
  • Acquire and maintain expertise in our fleet maintenance management software.
  • Assist in controlling annual budgets, and implementing cost cutting measures.
  • Oversee third party maintenance provider.


Job Requirements
  • Technical Degree in related field, Bachelor's is preferred. A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.
  • 5-7 years' experience in Fleet or Transportation field.
  • Knowledge of DOT and state inspection programs.
  • Background in heavy vehicle repair along with 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership and management skills required.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively negotiate and influence others.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Computer skills and proficiency, specifically PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required.
  • Labor relations experience preferred.
  • DOT / State inspection license preferred.
