Position Summary

Cobalt Civil is seeking a highly organized and proactive Fleet Director to oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and compliance of our vehicle and equipment fleet. The Fleet Director will be responsible for ensuring all company vehicles and heavy equipment are safe, reliable, cost-effective, and available to support construction and civil operations. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to fleet management.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Operations & Strategy

- Develop and implement fleet management strategies aligned with company goals

- Oversee acquisition, disposal, and lifecycle planning of equipment and vehicles

- Monitor fleet utilization and optimize allocation across projects

- Train and support operators and drivers on safety, inspections, and proper equipment use

- Manage the scheduling / dispatching of heavy equipment to project sites / locations

- Establish policies and procedures for fleet operations

Maintenance & Reliability

- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place and followed

- Oversee repair operations to minimize downtime

- Track equipment performance and implement improvements

- Manage relationships with maintenance vendors and service providers

Financial Management

- Develop and manage fleet budget (capex and opex)

- Analyze cost metrics (fuel, repairs, depreciation, utilization)

- Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve ROI on assets

- Work with CFO to develop and implement major purchases and leasing decisions

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure compliance with Corporate Fleet Policy, DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements

- Implement and monitor safety programs for fleet operations

- Maintain accurate records for inspections, licensing, and certifications

- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions

Technology & Data

- Utilize fleet management software and telematics systems

- Track KPIs such as utilization, idle time, maintenance costs, and fuel efficiency

- Lead adoption of new technologies (GPS tracking, automation, etc.)

Leadership & Team Management

- Lead fleet department including mechanics, yard operations, and support staff

- Coordinate with project managers and operations teams

- Provide training and development for fleet personnel

- Collaborate with procurement, safety, and finance departments

Qualifications

Education & Experience

- 8-15+ years of experience in construction equipment or fleet management preferred

- Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)

- 5+ years in a leadership or management role

- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
